As I promised I snapped some pictures of my 4Runner post lift, still trying to figure out what I wanna do next. Tires or Sliders, or Skid Plates...

Yeah.. looking at some 285/70R17 Nitto Terra Grapplers, but they cost about $800+ a set...

But I really need sliders and new skid plates too...

Paul, Grats on the OW suspension! Your build is coming along very nicely. Hope to see you on the trails again soon.

Check the Trail Grapplers too. I've been seeing very good reviews on them.

So I went ahead and did a little searching on trying to fit 285/70R17's on the rig.

Now a lot of posts talk about the tires rubbing on the UCA without spacers, even with spacer lifts. My question is what about a coilover lift and Light Racing UCA's? Will they provide enough clearance?

Well to answer my own question, the answer is Yes. You can fit Nitto Terra Grapplers 285/70R17's without spacers. you have about a couple cm from the upper control arm to the sidewall. I would like to note that this is with Light Racing UCA, OLW 2.5" Lift, and stock rims so there may be different results with different lifts/tires/UCA.

So here's a teaser pick of the most recent upgrade:

Left is the Nitto Terra Grapplers LT285/70R17, Right is the stock Dunlop GrandTrek AT20 P265/65R17 Bigger is better.
It got dark out so I couldn't snap a couple pictures of the new tires on the rig, I will get some tomorrow.

Cant wait to see the pics! In the future, if you get MT's or Duratracs that are a little beefier/wider, they will probably rub on the uca's. If so, wheel spacers would fix the rubbing.

I think if I didn't have the LR UCAs, it would rub. So far the only running is a Small spot on the mudflaps at about 3/4 full turn where the edge of the tires nip the mudflap.

As promised!

Here's the Zombie Truck 2.0 with new treads!

Before:

After:

When its brighter outside I will get some better shots.

Now all I got to do is find a replacement stock gravel shield until I can afford BuddBuilts, my old one is so mangled up that the swaybar rubs against it.

Looks great Paul! What a transformation from the last Hollister trip. Are you running wheel spacers? Any rubbing issues at full stuff or turning?

Thanks, it really has changed a lot from just a few weeks ago! I am excited to take the rig up to the mountains this Winter. As for rubbing issues; the only rubbing I am having right now is at about 3/4 turn of the wheels, the outter edge of the Nitto's nips at the inside edge of the front mudflaps. I'll get around to trimming it but otherwise I am not getting any rubbing. I think the way the LR UCA sit straighter and slightly in from the stock control arms allows me to have about 2-3cm of clearance between tire sidewall and UCA balljoint end.

I have a feeling that I will see some rubbing issues next time I flex the 4Runner on the trail; the tires barely fit the wheel wells so I expect some slight rubbing under compression, but we'll see next trail run we do!

As for the ride? Honestly... so far in terms of street driving, it feels similar to the XREAS on the road and the Terra Grapplers are not that much noiser than my Dunlops were at highway speeds; though there is a small but noticible change in the pitch of the tire noise.

Anyone know where to get a stock front gravel shield for cheap? I do not feel like dishing $250+ on a new one and I can't afford BuddBuilts yet (I wanna buy them as a set, and honestly sliders are next on the list)

Another thing that has already been pointed out to me is that the front sits lower than the rear, I will play with it this weekend and adjust the coilovers as I didn't do much more than level it out on the driver's side. But I still want a slight rake for two reasons;
-I think the 4Runner looks great with that slight nose down look as it matches the fender lines well.
-when I load heavier stuff in the back, the rear will sag and I don't want a "Cali Lean"
