This is not directed just at you, and i realize that i have been a member here for less that an year, but what is the matter with everybody's complete innability to not search on this site?!?! It is getting freakin epidemic. There is a thread on the second page in the 4th gen section with what you are looking for and dozens more threads in other sections, some almost completely dedicated to this. Pics of your recovery gear setup!!
All these excessive threads do is make it harder for the people who actually do use the search function to actually find stuff. Sorry for the rant but

I know how to use the search option. The only reason why I made a new thread was because I am at work and can't be on here all day and thought I would make a thread and get some quick replies. I have the ability to use the search option and when I have more time on here then I will use it. Go take your rant somewhere else.

Search engine is fine if you have time to sift through all the threads. Posting a new one is the easiest and fastest way to get your info. That what this forum is for. Its not a glossary, used only to search for answers. By posting a new thread you will get more opinions as new people join the forum. You will also get up to date info. Some of the posts are quite old and the is newer/better info out there!

Basic recovery gear should include a tow strap (static), a chocker chain for rigging, a kinetic tow strap (yanker), a good shovel, a jack, and some floor mats or short rolls of carpet.

Make sure you have strong frame mounted recovery points on the vehicle before leaving pavement. Using recovery tools without a strong attachment point is dangerous and should be avoided.

I have used several brands in the past. Currently, I use Kris Splice' ropes. We have been impressed by the top notch quality of his work, and we now use it on all of Central Overland's vehicles.

Wow! Next time I suggest posting a link only, not the rant. It makes for more enjoyable reading.

Your rant just adds more useless info, if you have a problem with someone posting maybe send them a PM. The search can be difficult to use with so many ways of asking for certain things. For instance FJC springs vs. FJ Cruiser Springs won't bring the same results.

To keep on topic, I always keep (in my Z71 not 4R) a 30' tow strap, winch, hi-lift, shovel, 10 ton snatch block, shackles, axe (in case I need to chop & bury a log to winch to, which I've done), jumper cables, enough fluids/filters to change every, 40' transport 5/16" (grade 70) chain, flashlight, fix-a-flat (hate to use it but I don't have onboard air), a hunting knife, a leatherman tool, a tarp (to cover stuff or myself if it's cold), multimeter, metric tool set with wrenchs & sockets, small screwdriver set, pliers, and hammer for when things really get crazy.

I only have jumpers cables, tow strap, SOG multi-tool, basic tool set, shackles, tarp, knife, and flashlight in my 4r.

Thanks everybody for the info! I guess the guy didn't read what I was looking for. Now that I have a list of the things I should purchase I will start my recovery gear project! Thanks for all of your help!

I always suggest a winch. They cost dollars but can simplify the process and make it safer.

A Hi Lift or come along can work but they can put you in harm’s way.

When you are stuck the area between you and whatever you anchor to can be a danger zone and any are where the vehicle can roll can be a danger zone.

With a winch once you hook things up you can get out of the danger zone. Winches are more controllable than yanking a vehicle out. Often a simply yank is all that is needed but for the times you cannot get a second vehicle into place a winch is a good option.

A Hi Lift jack can do some amazing things but can be more dangerous to use.

I carry a good strap designed for vehicle recovery (not towing) shackles (to use in your rigging), a pulley, a Hi Lift and winch.

Make sure your recovery gear is secured so in case you are in an accident it doesn’t go flying around your vehicle causing damage or death to your vehicle or its occupants.

Most importantly don't wheel alone.
