Sunroof visor

Since there is a built-in, self-adjusting sunroof visor. Do I really need the aftermarket visor from the dealer?

How does the aftermarket one attach to the vehicle.

No, you don't need an aftermarket sunroof wind deflector. I think most people who have them bought the 4R with it already on from the dealer. The aftermarket sunroof deflector has two clips that hooks under the sheetmetal edge towards the outer front opening on the sunroof where the glass and sheetmetal meet. The only reasons I think anyone would need it is if you like the looks of it or if you have an aftermarket basket/rack on your 4R and want to reduce the wind noise by deflecting more air over the basket.

Thanks! I might take it off since it blocks part the sunroof, when open.

Hank,

Since you say that clips hold it on, does this mean that you can install and remove the aftermarket visor easily?? (as in it is does not use the adhesive to stick to the roof)

I've wondered how 4th gens look with the sunroof visor...

mochoajr could you post a pic??

I took it off before I read this. I've only had it one month and the edge of the visor was already leaving a mark on the roof. Plus, it's easier to clean the whole sunroof with out.

That's true.
The 4Runner stock wind deflector is smart enough to adjust with the opening. It would be nice if it can further adjust with the speed. Any aftermarket simply can not compete.

Toyota Camry do need a wind deflector. It makes big difference.

2 bolts secure the clips and adjust the tension on how tight you want the wind deflector pressing down on the roof of the car. Takes less than a minute to remove the deflector. I've heard some people say that their deflectors would vibrate or shift at high speed, but I drive fast all the time (80+) and I've never had it vibrate/shift at all. Maybe the clips need to be retightened from the factory/dealer.

abin, the wind deflector does adjust according to vehicle speed (and sunroof opening too). There are two positions and a motor to make the adjustment. I believe the specifics are somewhere in the operator's manual.

Is the sunroof size the same for a '99 4runner and a '97 Land Cruiser?? I might want to take mine off and put it on pops' LC.

I was going to say the same thing

I had no idea what I was hearing the first time I went fast enough with the sunroof open for it to adjust the deflector...i was thinking *what is this motor-like noise?* haha

I will check it out by driving with various speed and see if I can tell it is whisper of wind in the pines or sound of motor.

It always something new to discover.

If you hear something that sounds like a CD changer, then that's the sunroof visor.
