2005 Silver 4R SR5 w/ Black Plasti Dip Grill

Just remounted the grill. Planning to use Plasti Dip "Create A Color" to get a gunmetal gray to do the wheels. More photos to come.

It looks great.

What kind of surface prep did you have to do ?

Hardly any. I just took the grill off and washed it really good. To keep the logo chrome, I took it off (3 tabs, very easy). There were some bug guts that wouldn't come off but the Plastidip covered them right up. Super easy.

That is how I did my '07 SE. Loosened the grill to slide newspaper behind it. 3-4 coats. Only have 50 miles or so on it since.

LOVE IT!!! Flat black is the way to go. Logo looks really good too, did you just put it on top of the plasti-dip?

gunmetal wheels

I'd like to see the wheels when you get them done.....I have the same color T4R and the chrome wheels are starting to show some discoloration would like to see the gunmetal color on yours for a prelude to doing mine to get some ideas.

Yeah, put it right on it. Doing that and the rims has taught me that Plastidip is pretty fragile until COMPLETELY DRY.

I've seen alot of posts of people that are using the Plasti-Dip on exterior items and I'm kinda wondering how often you need to re-apply.

I've have used the aerosol Plasti-Dip around the house on tools, electrical connections, etc.., and it seems like using it on wheels and other areas like the grill where you'd see alot of gravel or other things hitting it...that it would chip off fairly quickly. Once it chips, it starts to peel pretty easily.

Don't get me wrong...I love how it looks, but how long does it still look good before you need to re-apply? There are other ways to paint these items to get the same sheen.

For those that have painted their wheels with it...how long does it go before it looks all chipped up? Or, does it last longer than I think? How well does it clean up once there's mud all over it? Seems like the rubbery texture would make cleaning a bit of a pain.
