Need advice...had a remote start installed and it does not power down the back window

Hello,

I recently had an LCD remote start installed. It was an incredibly painful installation process. The guy was recomended buy Toyota; but, unfortunately he apparantly was not up to this task.

He actually promised that he would give me all the functions of my Toyota remote and even could make the back window power up. He installed everything on the first day including making the back window power down, and he said he needed to order a part to make it power up. The second day he worked on it but could not make it work. He actually shorted out the back window all together.

It took a third day of installation to finally get everything fixed. Now he is saying that he cannot make the back window power down at all with the remote start.

I've also lost the ability to unlock just the driver's side door and now when I hit unlock it unlocks all the doors. Also, when I turn off the ignition all the doors unlock.

This is a list of stuff that went wrong.

1. After the first day I could only unlock the driver's door with my LCD remote. Ironically, I could unlock all of the doors with the non LCD backup remote.

2. When I brought it back the second day we found out that he had broken the back tailgate alltogether. I had to have Toyota fix it. However the guy paid for it.

3. After the second day when the remote start engaged it set off the alarm and I had to live with it for a week until the third installation.

4. At least 2 or 3 times he would call me and say it was done just to have me come in and find he had not double checked his work.

5. Finally there are some scratch marks on my left rear door. He swears that he didn't do it, and unfortunately I have no way to prove it was him.

Needless to say i'm pretty mad at him. Right now we are arguing back and forth about him uninstalling it and giving me a refund.

I actually like the remote. Its a galaxy remote start 2000RS-2W Plus series. I want to keep it, but this frustrating right now because it does not work as promised. The guy promised me all the features of my Totoya remote plus the remote start.

I'm very suspicous of him. Remember how I said that when I turn the ignition off it unlocks all the doors? Well he swears there is no way to fix that yet I actually read in the manuel that there is a way to disable that. After reading that I'm willing to be there is a way to get the back window to power down and he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Do you guys know if there is a way to make the back window power down? I think i'll keep it if there is a way to do it. He gave me some long technical explanation as to why he couldn't do it. I don't buy it because after the first day it was powering down just fine.

Also, if he can't make it work and won't give me a refund do you guys know of anyone I can report this to. Maybe tithe Better Business Bereau or something?

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

I'm sorry to hear You have so many problems with your alarm install. I can't help You much but I can tell You that I found some 20 years old guy who is installing alarms, remote starters and radios and he's doing it in his garage and at first I wasn't sure if I should trust him but I did and not only I saved some money but I had my installation done in less than 3 hours... He installed Prestige APS-996A Remote Start Car Alarm w/LCD Remote and that remote has "Option" button on the side and he put that back window power down option under that button. It works great. He even promised me that in the summer when he will have more free time he'll try to figure out if he can make that window go also up. So it can be done and it looks like that guy has no idea what he is doing.
I'm sure there is some place You can report him to. I think You should find that place and first go back to him and let him know that You will that. Also You said that Toyota recommend him so go to the place that gave You that recommendation and let them know what this guy is doing!
I hate to even read stories like yours because I think if someone doesn't know how to do something shouldn't do it and if he screws up he should return all money back without even asking for it !!!!
Good luck.....

Krosno, thank you for the advice. When the guy installed your remote, did he require any extra equipment to make the back window power down?

Oh and today I found out another problem. The panic feature still works on my Toyota remote, but on my LCD remote the horn does not go off. The fun just isn't stopping on this one.

No.... he didn't use nay extra equipment....The only extra part for that alarm was bypass and it was like 20$. From what I remember he checked wires that are going out of swich for that window and this is where he connected wire that from there went to alarm. It took him maybe 10,15 minuts to do that. Looked very simple.
You might want to check forum that is about alarms...I think i found somewhere on this forum link to one of those forums and there were many guys who are intalling alarms and I'm sure that you could find more info there.
The only thing I could do is take a look at that swich and tell You how many wires are comming out of there to alarm....It it will take some time but I could do it..
