hail damage, head liner removal

Got hit with hail damage last week. The shop is saying $3800 for the fix. They plan on replacing the hood. To fix the roof, they are planning on removing head liner and using PDR method. This makes me nervous. Having rattles or squeaks would be worse than having the dents to me. Has anyone had the head liner removed and replaced without issues? What do I need to look for? Thanks.

Not a problem.

We had a freak hail storm here at the beach a few years ago and my rig got hit hard. They used the PDR all over the truck - looked perfect when finished and obviously insurance covered the cost. The only thing I did not like was the marks on the headlinger from removing it. It went back in place fine - no noise or loose fit (remember those sagging headliners from the 70"s?). But it did have some marks so if you looked close you can tell it was removed. Good luck!

I had my entire roof panel/headliner replaced due to an accident... No squeaks/rattles or loose fit but the corner of the headliner on the driver's side in the rear trunk area doesn't sit quite flush with the plastic panel just below it. I think one of the tabs that it clips into must have gotten bent. I'll fix it eventually, but it's so minor that I don't notice it and keep forgetting about it. Everything else is flawless, you can't even tell the truck was ever damaged other than that one conrner of the headliner.

To be honest, it turned out pretty f-ing good if you think about what the shop actually had to do to my truck: remove headliner, sunroof, roof rack, etc., bust the welds on the damaged roof panel and remove, weld in the new roof panel, repaint, reinstall headliner, sunroof, rack, etc. Make sure you get a good shop and I'm sure it'll come back looking good as new!

Hate to see that. I got caught on I-40 today around Conway and got absolutely hammered by hail, about dime to quarter sized, some bigger. Amazingly, I haven't noticed much damage at all, simply amazed at how well the 4runner handled it. I was literally skating down the interstate.

Hope you get this taken care of, keep us posted on what you end up doing.

You were in that crap?! If you do have many/any dents, file a claim now and get paid. Some of the dents on your black runner will come out as summer sets in. Hate to hear about the damge, but maybe you're right, maybe it's not that bad.

Yep, I had an interview in LR and had to try to make it home. I was on the stretch just outside of Conway when it hit and hit hard, no shelter around. After about 10 miles in that stuff I was able to get under an overpass and wait it out. I've not been able to really tell on the damage, won't until tomorrow morning. I've only found 2-3 dents in the hood, but really hard to tell at this point. For some reason the insurance companies all want to rape me on full coverage, so I'm carrying liability only at the moment so I don't think that'll be covered. Depending on severity, I'll shoot for some paintless dent repair.

I was hoping to get around it, just didn't happen. Worst storm I've been in by far, at least stuck out in. They were calling tornado's in LR and Conway, hail between Conway and Russellville so I had to take my chances, hail > tornado. Based on the size and amount that I got hit with, I simply can't imagine there not being severe damage. I simply can't believe the windshield could take that much abuse, some that hit were at least golf ball sized. Will let you know once I am able to take a better look at the damage.

I'm in Columbia and we got really lucky with that storm. Nothing major, everything went ether north or south of us. STL got hammered though, Lamberts had to shut down and is only operating at 70% because it got hit by a tornado. Scary stuff!
