Anyone remove their roof rack on a 4th gen? Pics?

I was thinking about removing my 4 gen limited's roof rack to reduce drag and because I don't think I'll ever use it. Was wondering how easy it is to do and if anyone has pics of what it might look like. Any input is appreciated as always.

IMO I don't think it'll look good but hey its your truck. It's pretty easy to take off. There should be two screws on each corner after you take the leg covers off.

Sounds easy enough, please post after you're done. I think it would look better, I'm not a fan of having unused stuff cluttering my truck either.

I pulled the roof rack on my T4R a few years ago, form much the same reason you mention (esp. wind noise at the moonroof caused by the drag). It made a negligible difference, and I wound up putting it back on after a year or so because it does occasionally come in handy.

Sorry, didn't take pics of it, but I'd say it looked slightly better with the rack on. It's pretty easy to remove. I don't know where the holes from the mounting holes lead to (and didn't want to find out the hard way) so I filled all eight with silicone caulk.

Perhaps think about just removing the crossbars, the rails are going to cause minimal drag, and leaving them keeps the appearance about the same.

I don't have one on mine. It's not part of my mod list because I ordered it that way.
Not sure where my pics are on here but this has been discussed before. Search for it and you should also find pics of the plastic covers that fit the open space in the roof.

I can't even draw a conclusion about the roof rack from that truck because the rest of it is so ugly

I removed my SR5 roof rack recently to replace it with a Sport Edition roof rack. Here is the process:

Remove the crossbars first.

Next remove the 4 plastic covers. Here's a tip when taking off the plastic covers at the corners of the SR5 roof rack. Slide something thin (I used a very thin butter knife) underneath the cover near one of the corners and pry the cover out and away. Repeat the process at the other three corners. The tiny built-in clips that hold it on release when you pull the base of the cover outward. If you don't take the covers off correctly, it's easy to break the tiny clips, or crack the covers themselves, or both.

Lastly, there are two bolts at the corners of each of the rails, and they come right off.

Wanting the rails you want to lose!!

As the opposite to the request above - now the proud owner of a 2004 4runner...but without the OEM roof rails.

Anyone have any ideas where I could find some OEM rails other than the $1000+ option on ebay? Went to rack attack who quoted me c.$700-900 for a custom build (i.e. without the roof rails) but if i could get a hold of some would be much easier to install other racks (mainly for skis)...

Thanks
