Looking for CB Radio and Antenna Mount Ideas/Pictures
Hey everyone,
I am looking into buying a new CB Radio/Antenna Kit for my 07 4runner, but I hadn't seen a lot of peoples pictures of where they like to mount their radio and antenna on a 4th gen 4runner. I currently am borrowing a friends extra CB radio and antenna, but now I am looking into purchasing my own. Right now I have been looking at the Cobra 75 WX ST kit on right channel radio(because I am then able to hide the box more easily) at the link below. As for the antenna and mount, I was thinking about the Firestik 4' and the Universal Hood Mount but I am not really sure if I want/will like the antenna on the hood of my 4runner. Any recommendations, ideas, and/or pictures would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Cobra 75 WX ST Off-Road CB Package - $179.95

When I get around to installing a CB/HAM in my rig I was going to go with a whip style antenna like used by the military. I would pull mine a little closer to the bumper so its more of an arc, I've seen it on other HUMVEEs and thought it looked nice.

I used to run a Cobra 29ltd classic with a "signal/wattage enhancer". Loved that thing but when I went in the service I sold it with my 78 chevy. just make sure no matter what you put in, that you check and adjust your SWR's so you dont have a cd go kaput.

My CB setup is;
- Cobra 75
- Wilson 5000 Mag Mount Antenna (located on the center of my roof)
My HAM setup is;
- Yaesu FT-3000
- Diamond NR770HB Dualband Mobile Antenna
- Diamond K400 Trunk/Lip Mount (mounted on the top right of my hatch)
Here are some pics of my radios on the inside (Yaesu on the right, you can kind of see the Cobra on the left)
Here is a pic where you can see the hatch mount

Sold it because it didn't get used, but I had a cobra 75 wx st remote mounted under the center console with the plug in the cubby under the consoler lid release lever. Had a 5' whip mounted to the hatch with a comet rs-720 lip mount. I used a K40 cable with removable tip, passed through the drain hole in the bottom of the liftgate.
Here's a pic of the antenna mount, it's the only pic I have of any of the setup.

After almost 10 years of beating up antennas I got tired of trashing them on the trees, rocks and garages so I went with a magnetic antenna. I have a good one.
My CB has been tweaked, peaked or whatever else CB shop did.
I have mine in my Wrangler and the inside is metal so I but it on the rear inside fender and stick it out the window when I need it to reach. I know the runner doesn’t have any good places for them antenna to stick out like that. With a magnetic you could keep it inside the 4Runner when not needing it, but it on the hood it you have problems with clearance and on the roof when you want it to reach out.
Mine will reach out as good as anybody in my group that has a perm. mounted one.

Thanks everyone who responded to the post and sorry for responding so late. I have been out of town the past few days and wasn't really able to reply. I did go ahead and buy the CB kit listed in my first post and I actually got it in the mail yesterday so hopefully I will have it up and running this weekend. This brings up another question, does anyone have pictures or a thread where they explain the CB/antenna install. I have been looking on the forums and I mainly found old posts from 2-3 years ago and all the pictures were gone so it was hard to tell what they were explaining. Thanks

Here's my setup:
Radios (L to R) are:
CB - Galaxy 979
HF - Yaesu FT-857D (top)
2m/70cm - Yaesu FT-8800 (bottom)
GMRS - Vertex Standard VX-3200 (I change this out for a Kenwood TK-762G when I need MURS capability)
The antennas up front:
GMRS/MURS - Laird/Antenex dual band (150/450) on a mag mount behind moon roof
CB - Comtelco base loaded for low band
The antennas on the rear view are:
HF/6m (6m to 40m) - Yaesu ATAS 120a mounted to the L rear lamp guard
2m/70cm - Laird/Antenex dual band (140/440) permanently mounted
80m - hamstick mounted to R rear lamp guard (i do not drive around with this mounted but put it on today for the pic)
I hate..Hate..HATE using mag a mag mount for the GMRS/MURS antenna, but between the roof rack and moon roof, there was no more real estate to drill a hole. I looked closely at the the clearance of the moon roof and sheet metal of the roof when the it was open....but read some other posts here and decided against chancing it.
I know the mounting of the ATAS, hamstick, and CB sntennas are not optimal, but you have to consider other aspects as well - like overall size of the whip. I could put the ATAS on the roof somehow, but I did not want the $400 antenna wacking every remotely low hanging branch around here. I have worked Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean easily (from NY) and I like being able to look at it autotune from my rearview mirror.
I have found the 4Runner to be a great vehicle for radio installations, with all kinds of options.

I've gone to magnetic mounts as well after breaking too many on the trail. Easy & clean and just have to remember to remove before pulling in the garage.
How are you guys mounting to the console side? I'll be mounting my Yaesu one of these days and that's about the only place to put one.

I "sacrificed" that greyish/silver piece of plastic that is the outside of the console sides. I totally cut off the support at the front to feed wires to the control heads that sit on a fab'd bracket in the cup holder dish.
For the radios on the side, I drilled holes on the driver side, but use heavy duty double sided 3M tape to hold the radio on the pasenger side. I don't always keep a GMRS or MURS on board so that space totally cleans up. The Vertex Standard and Kenwood are rather small and not too heavy, so 2 strips of tape on the mounting bracket keeps them highty tighty.
I also used that tape to mount the speakers to the center compartment between the seats, as well as the mic brackets.
