Trailer Advice Requested...

I have a 2003 4Runner Sport, with the V6 engine.

I am wondering if it is crazy of me to expect it to pull this bri-mar dump trailor:

♦ GVWR: 7,000 lbs.
♦ Bed Size: 72"W x 10'L
♦ Deck Height: 26”
♦ Empty Weight: 2,105 lbs.
♦ Volume Capacity: 3.9 Cubic Yards

I know the rated capacity is around 5000lbs?

Pulling it empty should be fine. The more you load it the more possibility you have of creating a problem.

How far are you going to tow it? How loaded will it be?

Never more than 1 hr.

I guess I am wondering, if my 4Runner is rated at 5k, what exactly does that mean?

Thanks!

Might want to double check what the V6 is rated for. I'm pretty sure the V8 is rated for 5000 lbs and the V6 is less...I stand corrected! just looked it up on Edmonds.com:

Maximum towing capacity: 5000 lbs.

It means that, with the standard V6 hitch, your vehicle is rated by Toyota to tow a total load of no more than 5,000 lbs, with a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs. If you load the dump trailer with more than 3,000 lbs you will exceed the manufacturers rated load capacity for the vehicle.

If it has electric brakes (that work properly) and the tongue weight doesn't exceed the capacity of your truck then you "can" pull it but it will be hell on your truck if you have any hills and starts and stops along the way. Your truck is only as good as the weakest link and if you over stress that link and break it it could be expensive, chances are you wont hurt your truck but you never know.

If it were me I'd get a bigger truck for the job.
