Just FYI, I had a sensor go bad a few years back. From a "discount" Toyota place I bought a new sensor for $70 or so and Costco in Thornton, Co installed it (because I had new tires put on anyway).

The kicker was that I had to take it to a dealer to have them program the new sensor in. Just the programming at Mountain States Toyota was $100 +. Bunch of BS profiteering from a frick'n federal mandated "safety" equipment.

Anyway, I'll check with Discount Tire next time. Had no idea they could program the sensors in.

One sensor cost me U$11.50 + free shipping earlier this year on Ebay.
There are sets of 4 going for U$62.00 right now.
The sensor registration was "free" with the ATEQ Quickset. I'll amortize the cost of the tool over future years as a cost avoidance at the stealership. It'll pay for itself after 3 or 4 uses. I'll be needing new tires next spring and will add new sensors at that time since they are nearing the end of their predicted 10 year battery life. Plus there are 3 other Toys in the family that will need the same type of work in the future.
I'll still use my bypass switch when I run the winter wheels.

Just be happy Toyota doesn't force your car into limp home mode if your tire light comes on. Some Nissan and other brands regulate you to like 20 mph if it comes on.

The day the vehicle decided to go into limp home mode over a tire light would be the day I made sure my tire light could never light again.

I am also looking for new TPMS for my 2004 4Runner, Sports Edition, AWD.
The batteries have run low so I getting the blinking light. I am looking for current information regarding purchasing sensors on ebay or Amazon. My VIN calls for OEM part # 42607-35010. Does Kmveter's suggested set up, from above, work for those who's 4Runners call for the initial version model # pmv 1017 sensor? Does purchasing OEM part # 42607-06011, model # PMV107J continue to be a good solution.

Gawd I hope not!

Everything from '05 forward is supposed to have them by law is my understanding. When I bought new tires the shop told me I'd have to add them and I told the tech my truck never had any. He brought in the manager and I told him if he could find any indication I had them I'd buy them. He turned the key on, saw no TPMS light on the dash, look confused, gave me a look and told the tech to install my tires.

Done!

Those of us that air down off-road don't like spending the day looking at the TPMS, we know our pressure is low!

To be fair though, as it's been getting colder my 35's went from 35psi to about 30 in the rear and set the light in the mornings. Visually I couldn't tell that they were under by 5psi so it was nice to know; I probably would have noticed in a week or two when I checked the pressures anyways.

My light is on, and I've checked 4 tires but not the spare. How can I tell which tire is the issue, if all 5 tires are around 32 PSI? Only my passenger front tire was at 31, the other 3 were at 32.

I'll be checking the spare this evening.

Thank you,
Jeremy

I'm surprised my tpms is still working after 15 years. My rims look terrible now so I stopped cleaning it. Lol. When that time comes,. I might just replace the rim with steel rim.
