Tundra TRD Coils on 4th Gen w/5100s?

Seems everyone runs spacers, FJ Coils, OME, or coilovers. On the 3rd Gen the Tundra TRD Coils were a very popular option. Has or does anyone run the BY/YY colored Tundra TRD coils with Bilstein 5100s? Seems they would be even better than the FJ Coils, right?

I've exhausted the search function by the way, but can't find a lot on it. Has nobody on here tried the Sonoran Steel lift on a 4th Gen? They use the progressive TRD Tundra coils with 5100 from what I've heard. Just trying to decide between the FJ coils and the older Tundra TRD progressive rate coils...

I doubt anyone has tried it. remember, the Tundra is a lot bigger truck and this would probably give the 4runner a rougher ride.

I understand, but many people used the same coils on the 3rd Gens and they are even lighter than the 4th.

I'm still curious about this. They are a progressive rate coil, so it seems that they would work well. I think that Sonoran Steel uses this setup. Anybody know?

not 100%, but I believe I read a while back that the 4th gen coils are bigger in coil diameter. I talked to a 3rd gen member who said FJ coils could be installed on the front of a 3rd gen but required serious modification and provided too much lift.

Since FJ coils fit the 4th gen and lift ~1" or so I would imagine the tundra coils must be shorter.

I can't recall any discussions on the tundra coils on a 4th gen. Could work, who knows.

I can suggest giving Tacoma coils a try. I know of one maybe two members who've done this, they seem happy. I actually had got a set from a friend but ended up not putting them on. They are quite a bit bigger than fj coils. I didn't compare side by side, but from what I could tell they're closer in size to the ome 885s than the FJ coils.

Hmm, never thought of that. I think I'll just hold out and get some OW 2.5s...

That's not a bad idea. Love my 2.0 kit....only took me five setups to get it right.

Hi all. Thought I'd bring this one up from the dead for any comments. I had Sonoran Steel setup for my 3rd gen 4runner and was real happy with it.

Anybody try this setup yet for their 4th gen? thanks.

Bump: Do Tundra TRD coils/5100s work on 4th gen

We know this lift uses the tundra TRD coils but does it also use the tundra specific 5100s or the ones for the 4th gen 4runner?

When i had the tundra/5100 lift on my 3rd gen it used the trd coils and the tundra specific 5100s and the only mod required was reusing the 3rd gen top caps combined with the larger diameter tundra rubber isolators.

And yes ive scoured this and other sites for this info but no answers. Come on this IS the internet..

TIA

John
