Bouncy ride after leveling kit

Hi all,

I am a new member and new 4runner owner. Huge fan of this forum. My 4runner is an 07 sport with the xreas suspension. As my idiot buddy (professional mechanic) was installing my toyotech 3/2 leveling kit, he disconnected the xreas line from the strut and the hydraulic fluid leaked. We put the spacers in, and my buddy thought it would be a smart idea to just put some "recharge" the xreas system by adding hydraulic fluid. Keep in mind that only the front leaked. We had no reason to disconnect the line from the rear to add the spacer.

After finishing it all up, I drove my 4runner and it seemed bounties than usual. The front is somewhat okay after adding the hydraulic fluid but the back seems bouncier. However little dips on the freeway make the front bounce about three or four times and then settle. My buddy claims it's because of the added compression on the coils! Is he right? Is it bouncier because of the extra compress on on the coils? Or did he really F-up lol??

Any advice would be great! I'm adding the extra lift because I want to replace the dunlops with 285-70-17 revo2. I also think it'll look great. Do I need new shocks?? Any help would be appreciated

Bounce is definitely the responsibility of the shock to stop...From all I've read the xreas is a closed system and any type of opening introduces air into the system and it won't work right after that. Seems like your shocks are jacked. Sorry man. crap happens.

So keeping stock coils is no problem with the 3/2 spacers?? I'm thinking of ordering the pro comp 9000 series shocks from my local off road store. I don't go off roaring much and wanted something that gave a comfortable ride on highway and street. What do you guys think?

Sounds like your mechanic messed up your XREAS system. It's a sealed system and you're not supposed to bleed it or add fluid to it. It's basically non-serviceable.

Also keep in mind that each front shock is hydraulically cross-linked with the opposite rear shock.

Unfortunately, your mechanic basically destroyed your expensive XREAS system and you need to replaced the affected components (which will be very expensive) or remove it completely and install new shocks in place of the XREAS system.

Yup, sorry to say either you need to replace the XREAS or put in new shocks all around.

Although you were probably not not expecting to goof up the Xreas system, putting on new shocks works great! I put on the ToyTech 3" lift and all we did was disconnect the system (not at the shock!) and left the old hardware still on the truck (TBR). I did this at 145K miles and the ride was/is a more noticeable a nicer ride. So, all is not lost....

If he wasn't your buddy I would make him pay to have Toyota put a new XREAS system in it. Since he is your buddy, You probably will have to remove the system and put some new shocks in. Really sucks. . . . I would not be happy.

Sparer lifts will ride stiffer with a harsh bounce to it not a soft bounce. xreas sounds like a pita!

Se if you can remove the spacer lift and return or sell it and buy toytec 3'' lift. It will be way better in the long run. good luck

The disconnect point for the X-REAS shock is not at the shock itself but further down the line near. Reference the PDF DocMT posted, on page where it shows the separation of the "tube assembly" from the shocks are where it should be disconnected at. There are check valves in those locations to keep fluid leakage to a minimum.
