2007 4runner Sport Edition - or shall I say... Plasti-dip Edition

UPDATE: 1/28/12

Painted over plasti-dip with Rustoleum Hammered Dark Gray Spray paint. One can did all 4 wheels. It's a close match in color to the nerf bars, but just a touch lighter.

In my usual parking garage photo spot...

Outside said parking garage...

Up close so you can see color difference...

UPDATE: 11/6/11

Well... I found myself in Home Depot this morning and happened to walk out with 2 cans of Black Plasti-Dip.

At first, I thought I would just try the wheels and see how it looked. I thought it looked fine (different, but fine) and then decided to try the front grill and the lower center portion of the front bumper. I put 4ish coats on everything and I was pretty happy that there was minimal overspray unlike regular spray paint. I read somewhere on here the other day about using index cards instead of tape for the wheels... that man (woman?) is a genius.

I chose to go with this look finally, after trying just about every combination. The wheels aren't plasti-dipped anymore (back to stock). I'm going to try for HOJeepster 's look by painting a gun-metal/graphite color over plasti-dip tomorrow (trying to match the Sport Edition's tube steps/roof rack).

I did remove the front grill (8 nuts that you can see and be gentle with the hood latch).

I taped around the bottom of the front bumper.

As for the wheels, the front two I took off and sprayed. The rear two I left on. I was able to slide some paper bags between the wheel and the rotor, and then just slid an index card around the edge closest to where I was spraying. Its kind of hard to explain but if you just do it you'll see what I'm talking about... I hope? Haha

Btw... for the front wheels... I sprayed the center caps and lug nuts after I put them back on. I thought if I sprayed them before, the wrench would tear up the paint.

Looks good! This just elevated my Plasti-Dip project priority ranking. I'm going to start with my grill when I get back from my 2200-mile road trip.

Haha well I'm happy to be a good influence then. Let's hope the wife thinks the same when she gets home from work...

She probably won't even notice the difference
