I had mine done in the Lumar ceramic. I think it was $250 or $280. All windows except the windshield and sunroof done in 20%. From the B-pillar back it had the factory smoke so the rear windows still look darker than the two front one's.

I was told the same about the sunroof. They straight out refused to do it.

I was going to get the windshield done in a UV only (no tinting) ceramic, but they wanted an extra $100 just to do that. They said it s alot of work with the heat gun to get the film to lay perfect so you can't tell it's there.

Question... When you get the front window tinted how do place your registration sticker and toll road tags? Especially the registration sticker that has to be changed every year here in Texas.

That’s an excellent question I never considered! I’d imagine that scraping the old sticker off with a razor would be very problematic if you have a tinted windshield. Also, you bring up another good question regarding the toll transponders. With a metallic tint, or maybe ceramic, it could mess with the reading?

sounds like a question for the tint shop.

Has anyone found where to actually buy the tint? I've been looking to buy Spectra Photosync Ceramic and just do it myself but no luck. (They are charging around $1,000 to have a Tesla done... god save me and my 4runner.

They should be able to leave a window.

Inspection/registration stickers peel off so easily. You can apply and reapply that sticker if you don’t get it straight. I didn’t have any issues.
My wife had a Nissan Leaf in which we did this to the front windshield. Awesome stuff. Really blocked the heat.

If you are talking about 3M Crystalline that stuff is pretty great. It runs more expensive than regular tint like 3M color stable, but the heat rejection properties are awesome.

Material cost more, its harder to work with, so I would expect higher pricing, but I have found some shops that have reasonable pricing.

I use it on my desert trucks because I dont want dark windows for night driving, and really need that heat rejection during the day. Clear 90 on the windshield is awesome... cant even tell its there, and it makes a massive difference.

I don’t know a lot of Tesla cars, but I have heard some peoples review heat rejection film and give it a really poor review saying it does nothing… but also read that IR hear rejection coatings or whatever are already applied to some higher ends cars like that (like those that have large panoramic roof windows)

Do some research before throwing away coin on something you don’t really need.

That said, pretty sure 4Runner doesn't have anything fancy like that.

Just fyi... I recently replaced the registration sticker and just peeled old one off and placed new one on with no impact to clear ceramic tint.

Does the sticker stick to the outside or the inside of the windshield?
