Finally got around to getting this little mod done. It succeeded - immobilizer light went off, and I'm able to start my 2005 4runner with the switch-blade copy.

However, (3) remote buttons don't work. Is this expected? Do I still need my original remote? A little underwhelmed and disappointed if this is the case.

Not much to add to this topic. I bought ebay chipped keys and remotes. I had dealer cut them according to VIN code so they are effectively new from factory. I watched a few how to videos on programming keys. It was easy. Remote programming was easy as well. Ebay remotes have great range and work fine. The only gripe I have is the alarm horn button is too easy to accidentally push.

Wait... is there a separate procedure for programming the remote part of the switchblade key? You have a link?

Thinking back on this, I bought my chipped key from the dealer and had them cut it. I programmed the key myself. Fobs were ebay knockoffs which I also programmed. Youtube how to videos are easy to follow. I have three complete sets now.
