What are the procedures for doing a full erase?

I want to avoid, NOT being able to start my truck with the Master Key if I do this.

It's almost the same, just one more remove and insertion of key and one more open/close door.

After that the light will come on for 1 second and you're done.

This process will not erase the master key you're using (to do the erase).

nicolachel-
I went back thru and re-read your original post,... JOY this time!

I found out what I did wrong, too. I inserted and removed the Master Key 5 times (5 complete cycles), meaning I REMOVED the Master Key on the 5th time, instead of leaving it in the ignition after the 5th insertion. Therefore, there was a 6th insertion of the Master Key.

Anyway, this process does work! I guess, I was just a bonehead because the Service Bulletin I downloaded wasn't clear to my readings of it.

Can't complian now at all. For under $10 dollars, this is a good deal. Now I need to find a place to hide the new key and blank one!

Congratulations!

I actually did the same thing (remove key on the 5th time since the pdf says "insert and remove") after reading the pdf, that's probably the reason for me to open this thread (to provide a clear description of the procedure for those in need).

Oh ya,... I went to 3 different places to get the eBay key cut.

First two establishments were both Lock and Safe-type businesses. Both wanted $15-$25 to cut a blank chipset-key like the Toyota Master Key. The third place (an Emergency Locksmith) wanted $10. My local ACE harware charged me only $1.

The wife lost her Honda Odyssey key two years ago,... $120 to replace that one!

Quick update!
The amazon key does open the glove compartment. Later that night when I went to lock my deck face in the GC with the oem key and it wouldn't lock. At that point I knew it was the lock and not the keys. The lock was a little jammed and just needed to be jiggled a bit. All is good!!

I guess that the grooves are just used to mechanically strengthen the key itself(so it's not easily bent/twisted), but that's just a guess.

You want to talk to your locksmith about this.
I recently got my wife's highlander key cut at the dealer. I brought them my cheapo non OEM eBay key and my master key. They said "this master looks a little too bent to use for a guide. Just give me your VIN number instead." So I got my registration and he used only the VIN number to access a toyota database and cut the new master key. This was Lustine Toyota in Woodbridge, VA that did this at no cost.

Insert old key (immobilizer light should be off from the first insertion)

Step 2 and 3 need to be done in less than 35 seconds(pdf says 35 seconds)

4.remove the old key. (immobilizer light should come on(steady on, not blinking))

5. insert the new key(immobilizer light should be blinking)

Then just sit there and wait, after about one minute the blinking immobilizer light should go off and you're done.
I finally got my switchblade key programmed using this method. thanks a bunch. I had given up on it until i saw this thread and decided to give it one more shot.

I'm definitely bumping an old thread here, but what switchblade key did you use? I've been eying one from amazon as I need a new key and fob (mine only came with 1 key and 1 fob).

http://www.amazon.com/2006-06-Toyota...737753&sr=1-27

anyone else have any issues with this type of key? the maker/seller iKeyless LLC looks reputable based on customer reviews and ratings.

Bump!

Links to Amazon keys are appreciated. For under $10 I would love to have a couple extra keys floating around.

That looks identical to the one I got. I had to do some modifications to this key to make it feel better. I didn't like the button feel at first. It felt like i had to push to far in. So I disassembled and put some foam cushion behind the circuit board and the housing. Finding the right amount of cushion was a trial and error procedure that took about 4 dis-assembly/reassembly cycles (about one lunch time). I also put another revolution on the spring so it opened with more force.

1) Programming the "remote" was easy.

2) Getting the key cut was difficult. I first took the key to a little bodega in the city that had "key cutting" on the window. < do not do this. The tolerance on the Toyota lock proved too high for a dude with a grinding wheel.
I then took a replacement blade to Lowe's. < do not do this. They tried and failed.
I took the same key to the Toyota dealership. The guy behind that counter was so interested in the product that he cut it for free.

3) Programming the "key" with the ECU was no picnic. The instructions that came with the product were garbage. a Toyota Prado programming bulletin did not work either. Some guy on these forums posted an extra step to the Prado instructions that worked.

Interesting tidbit: The key has a panic button on the housing that doesn't work. The circuit board has a panic button also. The button on the circuit board works. The button on the housing doesn't line up well with the circuit board button so it doesn't work. I fiddled around with it for a little while trying to get a small lever to transfer the force to the circuit board button it didn't work.

I bought this one in 09 when I got the car and only recently found this thread for programming.

NEW UNIQUE TOYOTA FLIP KEY ENTRY REMOTE 044 13 | eBay

The instructions on page 1 finally got this key working yesterday and I couldnt be happier to have it finally! The price has gone up since I bought it (was about $60 i believe). I too had trouble getting it cut, Toyota did it with a disclaimer up front that it wasnt their fault if it didnt work, but it worked fine.

My T4R came with ONE master key. After getting the security system I have three remotes. I just got 2 spares off eBay($20), planning on getting the Key-Knife, and was able to get the 2 spares cut for $5 donation and just programmed them with this thread! My favorite mod yet.
