Another success story! I bought some keys (2 OEM Toyota master keys w/ the dimples) from Ebay around 3 years ago, but have never gotten them programmed due to the cost involved. I always thought I would get around to having the dealer do it, and just going to have to suck it up about the cost.
Not anymore! I actually had the dealer cut the keys (they did for free), but told them I was going to hold off on having them programmed (which was my intention. The guy that did it had no problem what so ever with it. He actually said they cut the keys for free anyway. Because of how much it costs to program I'm sure!
Well, I programmed one key in, no problem. Then tried the other and it didn't program in. Tried again with the same results. So I did the erase action for all but the master I was using, and started from scratch. Reprogrammed the new keys, and my valet back in. Now I'm good to go!
Thanks!

However most of those information might not be the truth based on my experience. I'm willing to provide a small guide on this for those in need.
How to get a key blank
I bought the key blank from a seller on Amazon and there was no small dot on the key blade at all but it works. Those found on ebay might also work.
So just buy the cheapest one which says "for 03-09 4runner"
Should be less than 20 bucks shipped.
How to cut
I at first went to walmart but they refused to cut it because I didn't buy the key blank from them. Home depot and lowe's did the same thing.
So I asked a local locksmith and he did it for just 5 bucks. (just FYI those keys are made of brass, not steel, so most locksmiths would be able to cut them.)
How to program
Actually it's a super easy if you still have one master key that can start your 4runner. There was a pdf somewhere about how to do it on a Prado but
its not very clear(it would ask you to remove the key from ignition 3 times without mentioning putting it back in at all ) so I'll try to provide a clearer one here:
1. Take the new key and one master key that can start your 4runner(old key) into the 4runner with you and close the driver's door.(immobilizer light should be blinking)
2. Insert old key, remove old key, Insert old key, remove old key,
Insert old key, remove old key, Insert old key, remove old key,
Insert old key (immobilizer light should be off from the first insertion)
3. open and close driver's door six times (immobilizer light should be off)
Step 2 and 3 need to be done in less than 35 seconds(pdf says 35 seconds)
4.remove the old key. (immobilizer light should come on(steady on, not blinking))
5. insert the new key(immobilizer light should be blinking)
Then just sit there and wait, after about one minute the blinking immobilizer light should go off and you're done.
Whole process need to be repeated for any additional keys, the just programmed key could be used as the "old key" for the additional keys.
If there are 5 master keys registered with the immobilizer, it won't accept any more(and I don't know how would it tell you this, so just do a erase if you can't get it to work after trying for a few times). You have to erase them using a similar method(bring in just an old key, insert+remove one more time and open+close one more time, after the 7th close of the driver's door the immobilizer light will stay lighted for one second, remove the old key quickly after that and all but that one you just removed are erased.)
If you don't have any working master key(meaning you only have valet keys). Then I've no idea what could you do other than ask for help from a dealership.
Total cost is less than $25 if you still have at least 1 working master key. Less than 1/5 of what my local dealership wants.
Hope this would be useful for those in need, please post your results if you decided to give this a try.

I just did this! Bought my key from Ebay ( eBay My World - yourkeylessremote ), got it cut for free from a dealer buddy, and it started my car after performing steps. Thanks!
Use "YOURKEYLESS" for 10% off

I bought this key for my 05 Limited 4x4 V8:
TOYOTA TRANSPONDER CHIP IGNITION KEY 05 06 07 08 09 | eBay
Took it to a locksmith friend of mine. He commented that it was a very hard material (brass?) and difficult to cut, but he got the job done. He did this for free. I have been using this key for the last few days and it works great.
Total investment for a duplicate master key: $7.49.
Thanks to all the info on this forum!

A family member's car (Chrysler) has one of those hulking, gigantic, all-in-one keys. It looks ridiculous compared to the other keys on their keychain.
YMMV, but I like having a separate FOB & key. Sometimes I just carry a key (no FOB) for the sake of being compact. I'm guessing the overall size of the two isn't that much bigger than that combo key.
Is that Ebay seller legit? Sounds a bit like a homebrew project.
Say a prayer that the dealer agrees to cut it and cuts it correctly.

I had that key on a different Toyota I owned a few years ago and didn't mind it since I don't use a key chain or any other keys at all. I read a bunch of the sellers other reviews and he seems pretty legit. We will see...

Keyless FOB 4RNR
I'm looking at this one, because the other one mentioned is not available any more.
Now, I hide my key inside the little compartment w/dc outlet, and carry around my FOB. Hop in the care pop the key and your off. Its nice because the only thing hanging out of the ignition switch is a key that weighs nothing, instead of a **** ton of keys dangling off.

I wanted to give this a bump for people who want another key. I have a 2008 4R Limited.
I went to the dealer and the price for key and programming was around $150. I went to the local hardware store (Monnick in Marlboro MA) and they wanted $60 for key and programming.
I purchased this key on Amazon for about $15 with shipping. The same hardware store cut the key for $1. I went through the procedure below and it worked perfectly. So, total was about $16.
Thought the group would appreciate this info.

I was able to do the chip key and the keyless fob for under $50. Screw the stealerships.
Love me some internets.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone reading this thread, that only has there vellet key...
I had my master key stollen along with a bag full of other items a few months ago on a kayaking trip to bryson city northcarolina. I was in my friends car with my stuff and her car was broken into durring the 5 minutes we were parked at a lookout of the river. while we were down by the water just checking temp and rappids our car was being rob'd so dont park at any lookouts that arnt highly populated. (we were the only car in the lot when we stoped)..
anyway, i called toyota and told them I had the blank key i just needed the master key cut from the VIN number. the parts department does this and the guy at the parts counter after hearing my story told me to bring my blank he'll cut it for free! for FREE!!!
this is what i said "hi, I've had my master key stollen and when i purchased the vehicle toyota only provided me with one master key and one vallet key. I have the blank to be cut; however, no master key to copy. How much would you charge to cut the master from the VIN? I dont need it programmed i can take care of that.."
parts guy "man bring that blank down here we'll cut it for free!"
me: " anytime? "
parts guy: " we'll get it taken care of whenever you get the chance to get here!"
some dealerships are cool after all.. better knock on wood in hopes nothing changes lol
