This is the first time I have ever owned an automatic 4x4. All of my other toyotas were standards. But when I go and put my 4 runner in 4 Lo on a loose gravel location (not pavment) I switch the tranny to N and then I switch it to N on the transfer case then when I go to put it in 4 Lo it grinds slightly and kinda clunks going in and its the same way when I take it out. Just in 4 LO!! It seems to be running fine once its in but that grinding/clunking noise when going in & out of 4 lo just scares the crap out of me. Now my Tacoma standard transmission goes in nice and smooth. Is it supposed to be like that with an automatic transmission?? Are there any tricks when putting it in 4LO to prevent this??
