Thanks for all the questions guys. The rack system IS defferent than the JK rack system, but so is the truck. With the fact that the body of this vehicle is so much wider and it has a lift hatch rather than a swinging out like the Jeep, we had to make some revisions.
The Jerry can mounts are the exact same as on the Jeep, they just had be moved in on the rack to clear the hatch, which also moved them further up on the rack. In doing this, it also killed out being able to use the existing cargo basket. But, if there is enough calling for it, there is no reason we couldnt do a new one, it would just be more narrow. With the fact though that there is so much cargo space in this truck already, and nice roof racks like Gobi's, it doenst seem as necessary.
We did manage to salvage the back up sensors, but havent nailed the camera yet. We only have 3 weeks left with this truck so I'm trying to get all the heavy fab stuff taken care of first. Our solution will likely be to find an aftermarket camera that works with the existing components in the truck, and have it mount in the middle of the spare. Wheather or not we can find the exact OEM connector to build a "plug-n-play" harness is another question. We dont exactly have the strongest electrical dept, and sourcing these items isnt our usuall routine. If anyone has any leads to help us out there let us know!
GOBI Ladder...It looks like it MIGHT clear, but we would need a vehicle with the rack to test it on....

The can holders, anyway to incorporate Rotopax instead of the Jerry Style?
Was really hoping to see the xtra backup light ports like in the Jeep bumper
Is the bumper tow rated the same as stock setup?
Thanks you again for all the hard work, and sharing the products in this venue.

We talked about possibly using the rotopax fuel packs, but with the fact that we already had the mounts for the Jerry cans it just seemed to be the way to go. The can mounts are removable though.
Keep the questions comming guys!

Is their any way you can remove the jerrycan holders and move the tire carrier over a bit to the passenger side? I could do without the holders, that way I feel like the Gobi ladder could fit. Justin, if you need dimensions for the ladder, im sure a bunch of us can help you out.

If someone can post up a profile shot of the ladder and hatch, and tell us the how far the ladder is away from the hatch, I can get a pretty good idea if wheather or not it will work.

That looks fantastic! I would really like to see the wheel to the right closer to the hinge and a pair of Jerry cans on the left.

As for the 4th gen, we have plans to do rear bumpers for the 3rd gen 4runners and early Tacomas first.

Can't wait to see the 3rd gen rear! I love my SW from bumper. If you can make it similar to this 5th gen setup for a reasonable price, I know you'll have tons of customers...me included

These were some pics I had around. I can take some more up close ones tomorrow with reference items of known length so you can use that to extrapolate all the dimensions.

It seems that one key to making everybody happy with all these requests is to keep the base bumper modular so that the other parts can be added (or not) at any time. If you make attachment points for various configurations then perhaps some people could have a tire carrier off to one side so that the other side would fit a ladder. Others could have the tire carrier in the center, etc.
Thanks,
Greg

This is worthless, besides looking "cool". It dos not address the lowest part of the bumper, directly behind the rear tire since it leaves the stock bumper in place.
1. If you go over a large rock, that is the first area that hits and the rock pushes the bumper out, pushing the bumper holders out of place. It is an easy fix with the hand to put it back in place.
2. If you go up or over a significant drop, your trailer hitch will hit and absorb the impact, so no added benefit there with the bumper. If it does hit, it pushes back into place easily. And how often do you rock crawl on obstacles that big?
3. We already have a rear tow hook, so again no benefit with shackle holders since I can place a shackle on the existing tow hook.
4. With the tire underneath, it's still not the lowest area and vulnerable.
5. How likely am I to carry extra gas? Not very considering I get 360 miles to a tank. Extra water goes inside or on the roof rack.
Missed the mark if you ask me.

Where does it leave the stock bumper in place????
The shackles on both sides of the bumper are easier to reach and use than one underneath the existing bumper, especially during a complicated extraction.
Having the tire mounted out back makes for easier access to your spare, while also protecting it and freeing up room for other items underneath (air compressor...).
You may not need extra gas, but in reality, 360 miles is not a lot, and if you are in 4wd, esp. 4wd lo, your mileage will drop. For those taking extended off road trips, extra gas is a necessity.
not trying to argue with you, but this may not be for you, but it could be for someone else.

A few Questions...
Justin,
I think what you have so far is a great starting point. I love your guy’s work, it say’s quality through out.
Here’s my two cents on what I would like to see:
1). Tire to be mounted to the right
2) Jerry cans to be mounted to the left
3) At least an option for those who wish to put aftermarket lighting, such as
back up lights/tail lights. I'm not sure is you have to go through the DOT with your products being an off road aftermarket shop. But if the tire was mounted to the right they may be required, due to the lack of visibility of the factory lights.
4) Could you measure the departure angle of the bumper?
These guys are an Australian company (Kaymar) who make great bumpers too. Sadly there is no 4-runner like the 2010 in Australia therefore they don’t make a bumper for our model. Though I think they have it down as far as what I’m looking for in a bumper. Just some thoughts.
Thanks for your time!

The only reason I would get a rear bumper is to have a better departure angle then the stock rear bumper. To me that's the most important aspect. Not knocking what they have made, just voicing my opinion.
It does look nice

I like the Kaymar design as well. Better departure angle is indeed desirable, but I suspect there are some limitations to accomplishing that and yet still making it a bolt-on replacement. I think that moving the spare tire to the rear is the most important consideration. Since I did my lift and increased my tire size, the spare for what I am now running will not fit in the standard underbody position. Even if it would, I wouldn't want it to be there since that is only going to subject the spare to damage. As I was saying before, you will not be able to make everybody happy; however you would probably make the most sales by keeping it modular with various configurations and options.
My $0.02
Cheers,
Greg
