What kind of recovery gear do you use?

With winter approaching I just ordered and ARB snatch strap and a tow hitch recovery shackle, hopefully to be helping other people out, not myself. So I was what recovery gear you guys keep in or on your rig.

Lots and lots of information at this site:
Products -- EE -- Expedition Exchange Incorporated

More good products here:
Products -- EE -- Expedition Exchange Incorporated

Buy some videos for information about off road gear before deciding what to buy:
4-Wheeling America Getting UNStuck with Bill Burke DVD
4-Wheeling America Getting PREpared with Bill Burke DVD
4-Wheeling America -- EE -- Expedition Exchange Incorporated

There are lots of options and it is easy to spend a lot of money. I purchased a bunch of stuff and still have not got everything on my list.

One thing I noticed on the 4runner that is different from my old Tacoma was the points on the front of the vehicle, they are both the closed d-ring type. Is that what you use the chain for? I was trying to avoid a strap that has hooks on it but thats about the only thing I can think that would work up there.

Thanks I'll check it out, what's the most common things you find yourself using, not that the 4RUNNER gets stuck everyone knows that will never happen haha.

I've had one of these recovery kits for about 10 years and I've never needed anything else, besides a winch.

Products : Extreme Outback

You need a D shackle(s) to fit the straps to the truck.

Good prices here: ARB Shackle - D-Shackle - Winch Accessories - Winches and Winch Accessories - by 4 Wheel Parts

I just realized that I posted EE links twice in the previous post. I meant to ad a link to ok offroad also.

http://www.okoffroad.com/ Look at the kinetic straps they have.

Thanks to all that have replied. I'm thinking I'm going to get some shackles for the front d-rings, and an extra 10 foot tree trunk saver strap to run between them, that way if needed I could run it through one end of the 30 foot ARB snatch strap I ordered to pull the front end out evenly. Plus that wouldn't put to much stress on any one ring.

Now I want to get the ARB snatch strap just so I can tell people "I keep a snatch strap in my truck."

Seriously, though, I have a regular old tow-strap and an army e-tool in my 4Runner at all times.

I just keep all my off road recovery gear in my truck - bow shackles for the front recovery points, a receiver shackle, and a 2" snatch strap rated around 14,000 lbs. Might want to keep a pair of work gloves handy too - handling shackles in below freezing temps can be pretty rough. Also, when you tighten the pin on your shackle remember to hand tighten it then back it off about half a turn otherwise you might be looking for someone to cut the shackle off your truck after a recovery.
