RFID Keyless Entry, Push Button Start and Remote Start

I found this online at Home page. It is the DW-tech ST 800. It utilizes RFID technology so I now have keyless entry and push button start like the Limited. I simply carry my key fob in my pocket, when I get close to car, the doors unlock and the alarm system is disarmed. I then put my foot on the brake and push the start button to start the car. When I exit the vehicle, I simply put key fob in pocket and when I get a certain distance from vehicle it locks the doors and arms alarm system.

The best part of this system is it also has remote start, and does not shut off when you unlock the doors (like stock remote start).

I just ordered a trim panel for a Limited and it already had the hole in it for the remote start button. So it looks stock and works great. Actually better than stock because it has remote start!!!

I have only had it for about a week, but so far I love it. It works great and all the research I did on it provided great feedback. I did not install it, however the install shop that did it for me had some questions and mentioned that the customer service was excellent.

I will try to make a you-tube video when it warms up, it is currently 9 degrees in CO, frickin cold!!!!!

Excellent! Keep us posted and tell us the install shop too.

The only two features the Limited had I cared about were the Torsen and push button start. I drove the same Colorado roads as you the past few days and mostly in 2WD. Sure, the full time is nice, but not needed if you know how to drive and are aware of the conditions. Now that I can add a system like yours... awesome.

I had Drive-In Auto Sound do the install. They are located on Parker Road. They did a great job, and now that they know how to do it, it should go even smoother than mine. Like I said, no complaints thus far. The only thing that could go wrong is if it takes a crap on me sooner than later.

looks great, what do you plan on doing with the existing key hole in the steering column?

Let me know what you think of the system on down the road and if you ever have any issues. Or perhaps if the unit has any quirks that you haven't discovered yet. I'm seriously considering the ST960 from them as I want all the smart key functionality. I just think it's the modern way to go and it's one thing I've always wished my T4R had.

Check this out guys:
ST-960

And since I already carry my key fob in my pocket separate from my keys... it'll be just perfect. Maybe... minus the fact that it's $480...

The 960 is cool. Only difference is its a two way system. So the fob will tell you if the alarm is going off, etc.

I decided I really didn't have a need for that.

I will try to remember to check back in to this thread in a couple weeks and give you guys a update.

This is way too cool! I didn't even know they had a system like this using RFID.

I didn't end up reading everything about it, but a problem I could see is that the RFID getting copied. Didn't they have issues with this with passports and credit cards with RFID info on it? I think some people make a business out of selling RFID shields or something like that. I know that we have a likely possibility of getting our keys (with or without pushstart) copied, but I think I read that RFIDs are easier. Then again, you would have to know the person or follow them quite a bit to know they have something like this on their vehicle.

I'm not knocking the purchase or product; I really think this is such a great alternative to bring something that should be on all cars at an affordable price.

I bought a black plastic piece that is in the mail. It will just cover the hole. I have also thought about buying the Limited steering wheel shroud as that would not have the hole either. If the plastic piece looks bad I will go the Limited route.

I hear your concerns, however I can assure you that RFID technology is exponentially safer than the current security that your (and my) vehicle has.

My understanding is that the RFID shields that are sold are primarily preying on peoples lack of knowledge, although there is some level of government support for using them. I believe the only real purpose to shield is to prevent someone from determining that you are carrying and RFID. In some countries a US passport is a pretty valuable thing (ok, i guess you could argue it is anywhere, but i digress) and criminals could theoretically determine who was carrying a US passport, but they certainly couldn't obtain any data from it. So essentially the only purpose of shields are to protect the physical security of the RFID

What about the steering wheel lock itself? I know on my limited there's a motor in there that locks the steering wheel when I take the fob out of the truck. Does the system you have installed do that as well? Can you get into the truck from the rear hatch? Sounds like a pretty good compromise if you don't want to spend the extra on the limited. Do post pics.

The steering wheel is not locked. You have to cut a key and stick into ignition so that steering wheel will remain unlocked. The cut key stays in there all the time. I guess that is one down side to this kit in terms of security. However, I am not too worried about it. If someone really wants to steal my car they are gonna get it, no matter what I have trying to stop them. If the normal alarm doesnt deter them, they are gonna get it regardless.
