Rock Rails Standard on TE?
Hi Guys,
Looking at getting a 2012 Trail Edition. Salesperson told me it was scheduled to have running boards put on after arrival in port. Didn't make sense to me - I wanted them off. She corrected herself and said they are rock rails. That makes sense, but I've never hear of rock rails being put on as standard - usually after market, right? Anyone hear of this?
Here's the text of the dealer email:
"I made more inquiries about the running boards and apparently they are not, they are called rockrails on theTrail and they are standard , not running boards at all. The info I got was that it will not be easy to quote you a true price as the vehicle could be cheaper by quite a few dollars in this area rather than where it is coming in at. I was advised to get you to come in so we can go over everything with you and get you a vehicle ordered to your satisfaction. "
Thanks!

Auto manufactures do put accessories on after arrival in to port, yes.
As far as "rock rails" for the TE, no.

To my knowledge Toyota does not offer 'Rock Rails' for the 4R......However....they DO offer them on the FJ. It is possible she, or whom ever she spoke to got them mixed up.

I can't find the article, but I'm pretty sure I saw something just the other day that said one of the new items for the 2012 Trail was going to be sliders. I remember getting kind of miffed when I read it, but was in a hurry so I had to dismiss it and move on.

Unless things have changed on the 2012 since their sales and public brochures have been printed, sliders/rock rails, etc... is NOT an option. Only the regular running boards. If you are in the DC metro area, you will be getting running boards. Can I ask, which dealer told you this?

I like those sliders. They are on your 5th gen, right? What brand are they & where did you get them?

They are on my 2010 TE with KDSS. They are made by Demello Offroad. I picked them up from their shop in Corona, CA.

Rosner Toyota. She didn't seem to know what rock rails are, so I'm proceeding with caution. I just can't imagine putting running boards on a trail edition. I don't mind rock rails (depending on price), but since I don't anticipate doing any real crawling, I just don't think they're necessary and would rather save the money.

Rock rails, sliders, etc...are used for more than just rock crawling. I use mine to access the roof, they can be used as steps for little ones, they deflect rocks being kicked up by your tires, they can help reduce damage with side impacts with cars, they are with those inconsiderate people who open their car doors to wide, they bounce shopping carts off the body. I am sure there are more.

This seems to be a generic description that is being used all over the interweb. But hey, if it's accurate, then cool...But I doubt it.

Hey I just checked out their website and I didn't see them listed. Do they not offer them online?

They are not online yet. This set was the first set where measurements were taken. Call Demello up and they will have them.
