5th Gen 2012 4Runner Mudflap Install Modification

I installed the mudflaps on my 2012 SR5 - PT769-89110 - install instructions for the 2011 http://www.trdsparks.com/install/PT769-89110inst.pdf - I picked these up and was told these are the correct mudguards for the 2012. I'm not 100% sure, but I did get them installed with only 2 modifications to the instructions

Note: I didn't realize their were 2 different screw bags in the box

This is a great post for the 2011 Installation: 5th Gen 2011 4Runner SR5 Mudflap/splash guard install instructions

For 2012 Front the modification is obvious and easy
-- There is a plate on the 2012 that needs to be removed

Everything on the front install was smooth and fit the official document.

For 2012 the Rear installation is a bit different.
I could not get the spring clips to work for the hole in the bottom center of the mudflap to work with a screw as stated. It's tough to do much there without taking the tire off or at least jacking up the truck - not a good way to go
-- I'm not sure if this is the best solution, but of 2 different solutions I tried this worked best--
Need a 3/8 Drill Bit

I drilled the bottom hole out of the mud flap and then used the push pin instead of a screw.

There may be a better way to go, but this was easier than the solution I tried on the other side. The rear doesn't seem as tightly installed as the front due to the way the screws are into spring clips instead of into both layers of plastic.

Hope this is helpful to any other 12 owners.

One for the front and one for the rear. There are two different length spring clips IIRC the longer clips are for the rear...or was it the front hmm, but you get the idea ;)

Yes I had to take off the rear tires to mount mine (a right angled phillips would have saved me the trouble but didn't feel like driving to the hardware store), without the pics I can't see the issue you had. That is the part number I used and I doubt there is any diff from 11 to 12 but you never know.
