Well they come together. You would need the projectors to properly use HIDs. Check out the retrofit source for tons of useful info and products. Also there is a great forum: hidplanet with some more great info.

On second thought, are you looking for a set of 4Runner headlights for the 5th gen that already have projectors in them from the factory? If so, I would imagine they are a direct swap.

This is actually my next mod. I'm going with the FX-R bi-xenon retrofit kit from TRS, installed in Trail headlights. I should have this done within the next couple of weeks. 5k Lows and 3.5k fogs.
How many people would be interested in a Projector retrofit kit? I just opened up an account with TRS and can get GB pricing for everything they carry.

No 5th Gen ever came with projectors. You can just put in a HID kit if you want, but the best option is to do a retrofit.

I just went with basic HID's as I couldn't justify paying 2k for a projections since I usually only keep my cars a couple years. Surprisingly, I never got flashed.

Where did you get the $2,000 number from?

I bought all the gear on my own already. Gonna try it myself but just fyi all, ebay has some fairly cheap headlights.
I did a quick search and couldn't find the company I bought it from but they still have it on their website at am-autoparts
Toyota 4Runner Headlights & Parking Lights at AM Autoparts
I have no affiliations with them.
Spare headlights are the way to go!
Edit/update: the company has good email responsiveness (within 1 day) but no phone number contact and they got my order wrong... twice... sent me passenger side non-smoked bezel. If that's what you're looking for then they have it! They also compensated me for the trouble.

That was just a round off number. I think Philsey on here spent around 1k but he did the install himself. I was thinking around 2k for lights and install. Maybe it would be closer to 1.5k.

It depends on the components you use. I guarantee you can do it for less than $500 easy.

Sweet! These will definitely not cost anywhere near $2,000. I will try to setup 2 different group buy's. One where people can just buy the complete kit without install and another where you would send in your headlights to get retrofitted. I do know we will need at least 10 complete units to get the GB going. If I see enough interest I will start another thread to organize the GB. We will definitely get this done way below the $2k mark, installed.
I will get my set completed first so you can all see the outcome and then start the GB then.
edit: Thanks to Philsey for the tips.

Are you planning on doing the retrofit yourself?
