Dear Toyota, please fix this in the next production year of the 4Runner
So I ordered a light control sensor from eBay for under $13, including shipping. I made sure it was from a US distribution center so it would ship quickly. It’s a Chinese knockoff, but it has the same part number as the Toyota OEM. 89121-50020. If you look on Toyota websites it’s listed for around $120. That’s nuts; it’s a simple photo sensor.

I carefully pried off the black plug on the front of the dash near the windshield. There’s a small electrical plug attached. Take it off and plug in the real sensor. I tested it before snapping it into the dash. With headlights on and the dimmer switch *not* clicked in the full bright position, by covering the sensor then shining a flashlight on it, I could demonstrate the light dimming action. Then I seated it fully into the dash.
Works well, I like it.

Should all of our 5th gens have this wire? I pulled my plug I had in there, and there was no wire connected to it. perhaps it had fell down at some point? It looks like I would have to pull the radio or something similar to get that far back. Assuming there is no wire, is this a cheap harness that can be bought and simply plugged in?

Lift and tires
Installed toytec spacer lift and 285/70/17 tires. Was hoping for a more aggressive look but at least its a step in the right direction.

Step up to a 295/70/17 but you will also need new wheels. 285 is not a good idea on stock pro wheels, 295 is not even an option.

. How is the power on 295s? Some people complain with 285s!

Tyler State Park
Just got back from Tyler State Park. Very nice place to relax. 2 Adults, 2 15 yr old girls, 1 small dog, 1 huge dog (Irish Wolfhound) and a large RTIC cooler in the back with some other stuff. I think we did pretty good as minimizing what we traveled with, lol.

Drove my 4Runner to pick up my new daily driver / work car. Putting too many miles on my truck.

Some people just like to complain. It's a 4Runner, not a Corvette, it was slow to begin with. Of course power is less but by no means is it terrible. Does just fine IMO

Got it dirty! Went on a guided ride on class VI roads in NH. Need bigger tires for sure.
