I didn't bother showing her the price. I just said, ok!
Haha yeah my GF is super pumped. After multiple long trips of setting up and breaking down a ground tent/sleeping pads/bags etc... it is going to be well worth it I think. I went with this one due to the size it is when deployed and the upgraded pull straps that bring in the fabric on the sides when you close it (No more shoving fabric up in the tent after its been closed like most tents that pop straight up)

I'll report back when we get back from this upcoming trip.

Just wondering what your opinion is on camping out of a pop up trailer? Is there anything you feel like you're missing out on by not having a hard-sided place to sleep or the option for heat/air conditioning? Did you cross shop any other kind of trailer? Do you feel like the maintenance is a pain or easy with the canvas on the pop up or having to deal with moisture, etc?

Thanks in advance!
We love our pop up. We bought it about 18 months ago and have probably spent ~15 nights in it, most of those with a toddler and a 45 pound dog. It does have a furnace (although candidly weve had some issues with it that Im still trying to pinpoint) but sleeping on a mattress with sheets and blankets is a fantastic upgrade over sleeping on the ground. Setting it up is easy, takes about 15-20 minutes in total and its really quite roomy inside for being among the smaller options out there. So far maintenance has only consisted of regular cleaning, winterizing the water tanks / regularly checking tire pressure. Ive had to rewire the battery (and upgraded to a larger battery) due to some poor repairs by the prior owner when the battery was cut/stolen and Repacking wheel bearings is on the list. Weve camped through a few decent storms in it already and once were home I set it up in the driveway to air it out and hose/wipe it down. But maintenance is pretty minimal and it has been a great way to get our feet wet in the RV world. Do I envision that someday well upgrade to a hard sided trailer? Probably, although I dont think were in a rush.

I was able to find ours for a screaming deal on Craigslist - one owner, used a handful of times and was only a year old so it was practically new and I paid about 40% of the cost. It also has a motorized crank, which saves a ton of time/energy and I would strongly recommend. I shopped a number of other used pop ups and learned a lot via that process - plus you can get a sense for how well its been maintained pretty quickly. Knowing wed be using it with our little guy, it was important we got something that didnt appear to have any issues and wasnt grimy / beaten to death.

Happy to answer anything else but Id say shop around and in my experience, its been worthwhile to test the waters at a minimal expense and make sure it was something wed enjoy. Camping is way more comfortable for us now (and weve always been big campers/backpackers)

I gave it a good cleaning, inside and out, in preparation for my upcoming annual Nevada & Mojave trip. I'll be getting it dusty and dirty on the trip, but I always like to start off with a clean vehicle. I also applied some Rain-X to the windows.

My trip is still a week away, but I'm really looking forward to it. I've researched some interesting sites to visit, and plan on doing a lot of video. I also have some new photographic equipment I want to try out.

After I installed my new roof rack I turned my attention to a mod for my offroad trailer. The tailgate had an open frame
on the inside that made it a pain to slide cargo in and out. A flat surface would also provide a surface for cooking on a stove.

I hand cut and drilled a sheet of aluminum diamond plate to fit

Finished project!

A few more photos and details are on my blog if you need more info:
Sun To The North: My Expedition Vehicle & Trailer

Now I need to get the trailer back on the 4Runner and onto the high trails!

What do you think of them? I have been looking for something with the 2014+ style to replace my 2011 taillights. These look like they would fit the bill.

Essentially, they're exactly the same as the OEM ones except the chrome part that doesn't light up with the turn signal is blacked out and the quality is ever-so-slightly less than the OEM (edge finishes isn't as smooth - things you wouldn't notice if you aren't the one installing them).

Can't speak on long term quality, of course but they seem to work exactly the same as the OEMs.

If you want an OEM 2014+ tail light, I'd be happy to sell you mine. Perfect condition, boxed up and ready to ship

Those look great. Model number/where you bought them? There are so many different models for the T4Rs.

.
If you havent already, give Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax a try. Its the easiest to use paint protectant I have ever used and gives excellent gloss and water beading. I apply it on the entire truck(windows included) by washing and rinsing the truck and then pull it in the garage wet. I use a wet(wrung out) microfiber cloth and give a few sprays on the cloth and wipe a panel. Then wipe the panel with a clean dry microfiber towel. The end results are pretty mind blowing. And you will no longer need rain x.

Thanks, I like them. My son bought them directly from WeatherTech. They are WeatherTech 80531 front and 81531 rear..
