West Coast vs East Coast Unit Allocation
OK I've been searching for a 2010/11 LE in 4WD for quite a while now, and while I am looking for one without the 3rd row seat option, I have noticed that there is a lot more units on the east coast as there is on the west coast.
Does anyone see any reasoning to this or does Toyota ship more units to the east coast?

There are actually 12 Toyota sales regions in the US and most of them are independently owned . Each region or regional distributor orders options and colors from mother Toyota what they think will sell in their region.
Here are the 12.........
Boston Office (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI) 508-339-5701
New York (NY, NJ, CT) 973-575-7600
Central Atlantic (PA, VA, WV, MD, DE) 410-760-1500
Southeast Region (NC, SC, AL, GA, FL) 954-429-2000
Cincinnati Region (MI, OH, KY, TN) 513-745-7500
Chicago Region (MN, WI, IL, IN) 630-907-0150
Kansas City Region (ND, SD, NE, KS, IA, M0) 816-891-1000
Gulf States Region (OK, TX, MS, LA, AR) 713-580-3300
Portland Region (AK, WA, OR, ID, MT) 503-493-4900
Denver Region (WY, CO, UT, NM, AZ, NV) 303-799-6776
San Francisco Region (Northern CA) 925-830-8300

Just to give you an example Central Atlantic region doesn't get SR5+3rd row+ leather at all. Some dealerships were swearing to me that package I'm looking for doesn't exists at all. Just a short drive from PA to Ohio (Cincinnati Region) proved them wrong.

OK, so I'm 5 years late to this thread but its true. I live in So Cal could not find a Pearl white 4R SR5 without a third row seat. after going to eight dealers in SoCal I finally found it in Las Vegas NV. Well worth it. You would think I could have gotten this right off the boat in Long Beach from a local dealer in LA. Longo Toyota ( largest Toyota dealer in So Cal) could not get me one. When I picked it up in Las Vegas the port of entry was Long Beach CA. go figure.

Pearl White SR5 4x4 without 3rd row is probably the most available vehicle in Reno..........

Daily driver and so far spending about 30% of time/mileage off-road. Previous truck 2004 Land Rover Discovery that also spent about a third of it's life off-road. I HANG AROUND HERE "THE T4R FASHION FORUM" JUST FOR LAUGHS.
Perfect vehicle as it stands for northern Nevada terrain. Keep it stock - it'll go most anywhere as is.

Kendall Toyota of Bend (OR) has 32 ‘Runners in many flavors. They’ve had as many as 60+. But wait ... bought my ‘19 Limited Nightshade with a dealer installed Magnuson supercharger there in January. Been trying to get the tuner, which I paid for, and should have come with the vehicle, for five months. A whole lot of tap dancing goin’ on on their part. Gettin’ ready to go kamikaze on ‘em. Buyer beware! I’ve bought 5 vehicles from Toyota of Bend. Customer loyalty don’t mean shit to these guys.

I understand the difficulty when buying previously owned. I don't understand the region restrictions if buying new.
I could not find what I wanted at a dealer in SoCal in July 2012 when I was looking for a Trail. A dealer in Long Beach was willing to order one in my choice of color, with or without KDSS and Nav. They had a few on the lot, but not what I wanted and none in Shoreline Blue. The rep said they don't order that color for the lot.
We put together an order in early July and my 2013 arrived in late September.
Is it a case of the dealer not being able or willing to set up an order with the Regional Manager?
Makes me wonder if the dealers only want a sale off the lot and not have to wait for their commission with an order.
I had a similar problem when looking for a Sienna here in Oregon a few months ago. I was in SoCal on a trip and met with the rep who sold me the 4Runner. Same deal, I told him what I wanted, none were available nearby but he would order one as I wanted with a fair discount from MSRP.

Obviously dealers can only stock what the regional distributors order, so some dealers don't carry KDSS (ex Gulf States). But does anyone know if dealers can swap with any dealer, or is this restricted within the region also? For instance, a dealer in St Louis could potentially swap with dealers in 3 other regions that aren't far away to get other products (Gulf States, Chicago, Cincinnati).
*Obviously only helps if you're talking to a dealer near other regions
*And I'm not looking to buy, just asking the question

I've heard it happen before. Not sure how common it is though.

SR5 with Leather?
So, I saw that someone posted about getting a 2012 SR5 with leather seats as a stand-alone option.
Anyone know if you can still get leather in a new 4Runner SR5? All I saw when I was doing my research was that you had to go with a Limited or a Nightshade, which is a sub-model of the Limited, to get leather seats.
