CB parts list questions

I've started putting together my parts list for my CB installation.

The easy part is below:

  • FIRESTIK 3 Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Antenna Spring SS-3H $11.95 Amazon.com
    Shipping $-
  • 4' Firestik(R) II FS Series Tunable Tip CB Antenna - 900 Watts Black FS-4BK $18.19 Amazon.com - Winchels Electronics
    Shipping $5.98 Amazon.com - Winchels Electronics
  • POWER / SWR METER CB Radio 100 Watts w/ 3' Jumper cable - Workman SWR3P & CX-3-PL-P $20.75 Amazon.com - tintnelectronics
    Shipping $5.49 Amazon.com - tintnelectronics
  • DIA-K400-3/8C : Diamond 3/8"-24 Trunk/Hatch Mount $73.95 dxengineering.com
    Shipping $6.80 dxengineering.com
  • 16ft Coax Cable: RG316/U Clear Jacket M17/113/RG316 Thermax,
CORRECT UHF CONNECTORS ON ORDER - Will Update Parts a they come in.
    Shipping $10.00 rfparts.com
Total $291.48 (to date)

1) I can't find the Diamond K400 on amazon (and not a whole lot of luck in Google shopping...) adio3x where did you get yours?
- I ended up ordering mine from DXEngineering.com

2) How is everyone hanging their hand unit?

Is there anything else I'm missing?
NOTE: As you can see in the pic below I ordered the remote control box. you DO NOT need to order it separately; there is one in the box with the Cobra 75WXST

3 Boxes-o-parts showed up today... Antenna got delayed

I didn't find the K400 for anything less than $75. Got mine at the Ham Radio Outlet - World's Largest Supplier of Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) Equipment. Sales, Supplies, and Service. site. Also, you want the K-400 3/8 (comes with a 3/8" adapter for the coax). I might also recommend the Diamond C-110 extension coax over the Firestik coax since the K400 has coax attached to it you won't need to strip it out to use the Firestik coax. Simply attach the C-110 to the existing K-400 coax and you're good to go. Also, the Diamond coax is significantly smaller in diameter than the typical CB coax, and you can attach the 3/8" tip AFTER you've routed everything which makes routing a whole lot easier. Haven't figured out where I'm going to hang my CB if at all. I may just keep it in the center console and rest it in the cup holder or something when I'm using it. In fact, I haven't even wired the Cobra 75 yet as I ran short on time before travel for work last week. Should be finishing it up this weekend.

Just my $.02.

yeah. I saw the one with the coax attached, but it looks like Audio3x was able to use the FireRing cable on the mount without issue. Plus the $30 saving s = SWR meter

This is how I mounted my handset. Without the block, you can't see the display due to a poor angle. I made the block out of some stick epoxy. Mix it into a rough square shape.and stick it to the clip. Wait 30 mins for it to harden, and then use a belt sander to get the final shape. Then you just drill some holes and mount it...

May want to double check / confirm the cable length. I think I started with 18' but need to head to Radio Shack for longer. But I may have had to go a longer distance than you.

Don't think you need the remote connector box (AC701) with the 75, it comes with one.

Unless you felt like you needed a spare.

My handset sits in the 4wd boot.

I don't have it connected often.

Yup! Got most of the parts ordered and I should be getting most boxes in this week. I held off on getting the big length of coax until I can test fit the parts and can get a good measurement based on how I want to run the cable.

More details and pics to follow :-)

Sorry I just not saw this.

I ordered my K400 from Universal-Radio. Site is legit, kinda doesn't look like it lol.

Universal Radio shortwave, amateur, scanner and CB radio since 1942

I used the 18 foot firering coax and it was more than enough for where my CB was mounted. I actually had a lot left, had to keep it zip tied where the bottle jack door is.

I haven't fully tuned mine yet, but so far its working pretty well.

My 4ft Firestik antenna came in!

I've also started looking around for a spot where to have the connector for the handset to come out. First I thought to simply have ti come out of the passenger side of the center tunnel, but that was based on the idea of having a flat/recessed plug. turns out that's not how the control box feeds out to the handset; there will be a short piece of wire hanging out of a rubber grommet.

So now I'm thinking about drilling a hole in the little cubby hole.

This way it's not getting hung up on my wife's purse when she has that up front and it's close to the AUX input in case I want to run the CD over the vehicle speakers (I have to look up Antman's mod for that again).

Now I just need to get a free weekend to measure the remaining length of coax and tear out some interior body panels to mount all the parts. I should be able to get the measuring done this weekend... just wont get to mount it all.

Okki
