Some information for those upgrading their suspension
Along with adding a complete suspension package, I’m planning on adding a SW front bumper, winch and extra batteries, etc, etc, etc.
Obvisouly, this will add a fair amount of weight to the front end. It will also make the front end dive during braking worse along with the issue of leveling. The leveling can be resolved with the threaded spring position stops on the shocks. This does not address the nose dive issue. It also means the sprigs will be pre-loaded from the extra weight and reduce the effective spring height do to the compression.
Since I’m planning on an ICON package I contacted them about this and they said they can provide different springs with a higher rating. They told me that the standard front rating for their stage 1 system is 650lbs and they would recommend bumping it to 700lbs. There is an extra charge of course, ($125) since the heavier springs cost more and they have costs for preparing them. They also said I could order them direct or through a dealer.
Bottom line: If you have added more weight to the front and are upgrading your suspension (it doesn’t matter whose), don’t forget to upgrade the spring rate or it’s not going to be a system tuned for your heavier front end!!!.
