I would love a range of 1200 - 1500 rpm at high idle! Just dealt with Dealer today 9-16-15 and they said they didnt have. A range specification for the high idle ! Stated it was federal ! Was a bust ! Corporate suppose to call me! This is what happens when we question big box business and they say its the Feds fault! But what I dont understand is no quantifiable specification to base the high idle on???

You have an arbitrary number in mind that your vehicle should idle at?
You think the government is controlling your idle??

This is nothing to worry about. Your ECU is doing it's job.

High idle on cold start is normal. The engine is programmed to run a little high to get the cats warmed up (they don't work well cold). It's an emissions thing, and not unique to Toyotas.

My 4th Gen does the same. Around 1K RPM at start and within ~30 sec-1 min after start, it drops down to the 500 RPM mark. AC on it will idle a little bit higher. I usually wait till the RPM's drop down before driving. By the time I get seatbelt on, plug in phone and such, its ready to go. Haven't experienced the brake squeal/creak when shifting from park to drive though.

Do you work for Toyota? Hahaha! My
Hi Idle at 1900 ! Should be under 1600 !!
My point there should a range that is acceptable RPMs !!
AND Dealership should be able to document that number !

True high idle should be " a little high" mine is 1900 RPM !! On a warm Sept morning ! I would accept anything under 1500 RPM ! To me my idle is racing the engine !

This is very exciting ! It's making me a little tense waiting to see what it could be !! Will it ever be resolved by the dealer ????? I'm not sure !!! "Let us know" ?!
