Lefty loosey righty tighty doesn't work, Doesn't work on my Antenna.

So I was pretty stoked yesterday when my Craven Speed Stubby Antenna came in the mail. It should be a straight forward mod. So I rushed out into the garage to do the install with out thinking. (With my wife saying if you don't slow down your going to mess something up)

I get out the correct size wrench and start trying to unloosen the antenna. Turning to the left (Lefty Loosey).. But wait... Way did I just hear a Pop sounds? And now the damn thing just turns and turns. It doesn't matter which why I turn the thing, it just spins.

So I grab the New Antenna and saw that it treads the opposite direction. Crap.

Now what?

For what it's worth, I just went and checked on my 2012 Trail - and it is threaded properly (count-clockwise loosens it [lefty] clockwise tightens [righty]) not reversed.

Sounds like a warranty issue - tell them you were removing to go through a car wash or something.

Otherwise, I'm sure there's a way inside that fender - most likely by removing the wheel well lining on the passenger side - and it would be a cheap fix they aftermarket kits that fit in there and even the factory one should be pretty cheap.

You got a warranty still?

What I would do...
Go to dealer and tell them you wanted to take it off for a carwash and it broke when trying to remove by hand. (they cant prove you are lieing) :P

Ask they fix what ever part you broke and request the antenna not be re-installed (that way you dont break it again)

Then put ur craven on.

But thats just what I would do...Yeah Im shady like that :P

Yep ,it's standard threads, not reverse threads and took a 8mm open end wrench. My antenna was pretty tight the first time I took it off and took a quick flick of the wrist ,like your playing foosball, to break it loose rather then just turn it.

It's a powered antenna so see if you still have reception as the wires might have twisted off if it's turning and turning like this guy.....Ideas for a shorter antenna?

Not an easy fix if this happens as the wheel well liner has to come off to get to the other side.Liner removal is a real PITA and left a couple scars on my arms.
Here is a pic looking up at it with the liner removed.

In my experience, swapping the stock antenna for the Craven Stubby went smoothly, but I wasn't thrilled with the reception with the stubby... so as much as preferred the look of the stubby I'm back to the stock antenna for now. I hope yours works out to your satisfaction.

Harper, You rock, this is the information I was after. I really hate taking my car into the dealers. Yes my reception isn't worth the beans after messing with it. I still am able to hear some stuff, but it's broken up.

So your saying I should still be able to remove the antenna, I though I broke the housing the (ant) thread into. Since it just spins.

I don't mind remove the whole assembly, I just want it fixed.

I think I see what's going on, from your picture. Thank you again.

The antenna Assembly sits in collar or a sleeve. This collar pinches closed around the assembly and there's a screw that is clamping it closed. Which is suppose to keep the antenna from spinning in it's housing.

I might be able to undo that screw on the collar and slip every thing out the top of the fender. Since the Antenna ornament wont come through the hole in the fender.

To be honest ,I didn't really pay attention to how the antenna was attached underneath, just took the pic since it was open to it but ya that's what it looks like. Maybe pm that other guy that had to fix his for more info.

Next time ,if there is a next time

Well I Figured what was wrong with my Antenna...
Lefty loosey righty tighty doesn't work doesn't work on Antenna.-img_0021-jpg

Here's the steps I went through to fix it.

1.) Order all the correct clips and Fasteners. This is what I order.
Fender Moulding Clips 90904-67036
Hood/Fender Screw Grommet 20mm Head Diameter
Rocker Moulding Clip With Sealer 75495-35010

2.) Remove All the fasteners in the fender and in the liners.
Be careful removing your fender flare. I broke more then just the clips. But it was a easy fix using a ABS plastic epoxy from Lowes.

3.) Cut all the black push in liner clips. These same push in clips and used to screw the fender flare to the body of the truck. They are kind of a pain to remove. But I found a nice set of RC Car Body Scissors, that worked great.

4.) Now you should be able pull back the liner and see your Antenna and the 10mm Bolt that holds it onto the bracket.

5.) Unplug the male and female antenna wiring form the mount.

7.) It looks like there was some lock tight and plaint that made the antenna stick.

LOL that Harper7 had the exact pic of what you needed to see.

But, good work sir on fixing your truck. Looks like you knocked it out yourself.
