Roof Rack Question

I'm in the market for a 5th gen 4runner (trail edition). But I need to know how wide the cross bars are on the roof rack. This will determine if my canoe can be carried with the factory rack or not. If someone can measure the width of the cross bars, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I was bored at work, looks like 40 5/8 in on my SR5, not sure of the difference b/t that and the trail but I would guess they're the same.

Looks to be plenty wide enough for my canoe. Thank you!

Distance between the rails on a TE is 40 5/8 at the front and 38 7/8 at the rear. If you need wider check out the Thule Crossroad feet and crossrails (I've tried the Yakima Railgrab mounts and just didn't trust the design for use on the TE rails).

My canoe is 35" wide; so it would fit nicely up there. Thanks for the input!

Hey Xterra,

What kind of canoe are you carrying? I just bought a 2012 SR5 and I'll carrying a Wenona Spirit II on top.

Wenonah Sundowner 17'.

The Spirit II is a great boat - very versatile.
