Question Suspension Mod 5th Gen Trail/KDSS

I'm wanting to replace the stock with either the Toytec Ultimate or Radflo 2.0 Coilovers in my TE with KDSS. There is a lot of info on this forum, some conflicting, regarding the various systems - with pros and cons for these as well as others. Not being a mechanic, I would want a shop that has done the installs knowledgeably and effectively so as to not have to go to the dealership if any problems arose as they will likely tell me to reinstall stock before checking out problems. Does anyone know of capable installers in Vancouver, Canada or in the US Northwest, ie. Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Portland etc? Many I have called will say an absolute NO due to the KDSS or indicate that they may be 'interested' but haven't yet done an install on this vehicle.

I am in Tacoma and did my lift myself on my Trail with KDSS. I find it crazy that they are telling you they wont do it as it was very easy and you risk very little if you take your time and pay attention. I guess maybe their reasoning is because they don't know how the system works so they don't want to risk breaking it and having to buy you a new system.
Unfortunately since I don't know how any of the shops are in this area I can't be of much help, sorry. I would suggest whatever shop you take it to maybe print out the pages from Nashman's manual Free Cloud Storage - MediaFireand let them read over it.

I installed an OME suspension on my 4Runner with the KDSS. It wasn't too hard to do. Depending on when you get the stuff and if I'm up in the Seattle area at the time I'd be willing to assist with the install. Since you are in the NW one option you have is find the OME suspension online and take a trip to Seattle to will call it direct from ARB's U.S. Headquarters in Renton.

If you choose to do the install yourself you will have to keep the KDSS hydraulic cylinders from actuating. I ratchet strapped mine to the frame to keep them from extending.

How about going to Metal-Tech, they are just south of Portland. They sponsor this forum and the fj cruiser forum and have a ton of experience. Also their prices are very good. You should also consider Icon Suspension as an option for your lift.

We can get you taken care of, we are 40 minutes south of Portland in Newberg, OR. We do sell the Radflo 2.0 coilovers and shocks plus the full line of Icon Vehicle Dynamics. We are currently trying to get the 4Runner section built up on our site to show what we offer but feel free to give us a call at 1-800-839-0684 ext 1 or email us at [email protected] and we will get you taken care of.
