Automatic Running Boards.

Does any one have them? (Automatic Running Boards) looks like a dealer option on Toyota web site. Do those deploy only when door's open or can I override while door is closed for washing the roof.

Here's an existing thread on this topic:
2012 4Runner Limted Magna Gray with Auto Running Boards

Yes, it can be enabled/disabled (Second switch from left, on bottom):

I have them on my 2012 LE and love them by the way. There is a switch that's says "auto" or "off". You can't make them stay in the out/down position for washing(just checked mine). I had to crack the door slightly and rinse them with low pressure to avoid getting water inside. I guess you could open the doors then find and pull the fuse to keep them out but that seems like to much trouble IMO.

Thanks and no prob. I'll get my post count up one of these days(4R is 5 days old). Maybe someone will come up with a "mod" to wash the boards. Hmmmm

You can have the boards stay out i've done it on my LE...there's a safety feature that does not let your board actuate if pressure is sensed on the board...

Open the door let the board out and stand or apply pressure with your foot to the running board and then close the door. The board will begin to actuate inwards (its an uneasing feeling because your natural reaction is to move your foot quickly lol) and then sense the foot pressure and remain in the out position. I've installed this type of running board on a Tundra and the manual calls it a "safety" feature.

Automatic retractable running boards no longer retracting

Hi all,
First post to TR4 so please go easy on me. I have a 2012 Limited 4runner with the retracting running boards. About 4 months ago the passenger side board stopped retracting when the door was closed. I brought it to Toyota and they checked it out and couldn't figure why it wasn't going in. We figured some kind of faulty sensor was forcing to stay engaged. Then this week the other side started doing the same. They both retract when the car is placed in motion (forwards, backwards), just not as soon as the door is closed like before. One thing to add is that they do attempt to actuate, but then stay down as if something is in the way.

Thanks for any assistance you may have.

Kevin

I've seen some totally gummed up with salt.

They also feel rickety if a big man (such as myself) stomps up and down on them.

Thanks Bubbles!

I'll try to see if there is something causing the hinge to pinch. I think it is more sensor related but not sure. How's Ricky and Julian?
