Trailer plug connector

The connector for both 4pin and 7pin is located under the rear of the vehicle. I almost have to lay on the ground to connect. Is there an extension available or has anyone tried to relocate, doesn't seem to be much extra wire.

Here is a link to what one member did.

I relocated the plugs for the trailer lights. Thank god!

Here is a photo of what I did using the OEM bracket, some extra wire and soldering iron. Be Safe.....

Once you get used to the location it`s no big deal. I just have to look and hook up.
In 2 years of ownership, I have never had a problem putting my plug in the receptacle. If it is a tight fit you may want to put some lubrication on it.

I use a coiled extension held up outta the way by the tow loop. Works great.

Not much help if you have a 7 pin on the trailer. Harbor freight, Tractor Supply, etc have 4 pin extensions for about $5 or a 7 to 4 pin adaptor for about the same.

Like someone else said, it's possible to get used to the location. I just reach under there and plug it in these days.

It's there for a reason - mainly to not get ripped off when you're going off-road.

The 7 and 4 pin sockets and plugs, as well as the combos like the one on the truck are also available for purchase aftermarket. An idea is to fashion a plug-to-socket extension where you can mount that somewhere it makes you feel better.

Sorry, I can't help but think less of you when you won't take the time to spell things right or use proper grammar. Deal with it. I don't care if you're ESL either, because I am too.

^This.

It really isnt that hard to hook up. I go down on one knee and hook it up. Thats it. I hook up my boat twice a week. Easy peasy.

And for all you "youngins" out there who find it no problem to drop down on your knees, bend under your vehicle to plug in the connector....good for you.

Speaking for myself only, I found it a real "PAIN". Literally. And, there really is no good reason for it, as I think my mod as shown above proves. Yes, one could get used to just about anything, but unless you "HAVE" too, why? If there is a better way that makes it easier, then.......be safe.

the "down" is not the issue...gravity always wins

it's the back "up" that is not pretty...

How about this one for recycling threads !?

Does anyone know if the 7 pin on 5th gen is wired to charge a trailer battery? The diagram on the cap doesn't show that pin to do anything but all the searches for it I've done say it should.

I took the teardrop out for the first time with my 4Runner and the battery died on it. Granted I had my fridge running overnight but usually if my battery is topped off it hasn't been an issue in the two years I've done it with my LR Disco.

I hooked the trailer up and ran the engine for a good while to see if it would get SOME charge and it didn't do much.

I'm out with it now and I didn't bring my volt meter like and idiot.

Not that it matters right now, this I can figure out once I get back but I'm bored and have signal

Problem is, it's probably a 18-20 guage wire...which you are not going to get many amps through. If you want to put a serious charge in your trailer battery, run a fused 8 guage with Anderson clips to connect both sides. The distance of wire can be your enemy.

Guys, does the T4R Limited come with an electrical plug for a trailer that's near the hitch? I apologize if this has already been covered. Thanks.
