Limited to trail conversion
Hey guys I know there are a lot of threads that detail the differences between the two models but I am preparing to buy a '13 limited but I want the kdss suspension, crawl control and the multi terrain select. Has anyone heard of this? I have a 3rd gen sr5 and I am ready to upgrade!

Not happening. Adding KDSS would require a new frame, new control arms, new sway bars, new hydrolic lines all the way around the vehicle, electronic KDSS sensors, KDSS ECM/computer module, etc... you get the picture
Just get ADDCO swaybars with a quick disconnect if you are not comfortable with the on-road handling of the 4Runner. Off road, your non-KDSS vehicle should perform just as well (or better if you remove your swaybars) than one with KDSS.
It's hard to add options from one trim-line to another. Toyota left out any additional wiring harnesses you didn't pay for.

Step 1: Buy a trail
Step 2: Buy all of my limited trim pieces
Step 3: Install aftermarket leather
Step 4: Have a TE that looks like a Limited!
But seriously for what you want, your only option is to start with a Trail. You can convert a Limited to LOOK like a Trail, but you can't add "the kdss suspension, crawl control and the multi terrain select."
OR, start with a limited, upgrade the suspension, add a rear locker, convert to trail edition exterior. And you will have the best of both worlds.

Dad has a 2011 Limited and I have a 2012 Trail...there are only a few options that I'd like to add. Agreed that the Trail is the best starting point.

Thanks guys! Your probably right. I love the smart key and pop out running boards but I would much rather have stock off road goodies! I don't understand why Toyota wouldn't allow leather in the trail edition when you can option it on the sr5 and limited.

Are you going to negotiate a swap or buy them out right?

Poppycock good sir! This sounds like a line of thought a car salesman would say if a TE wasn't in stock. I can personally attest to how BA KDSS is offroad.

I would swap them... I'm not a huge fan of the wheels especially the 20's on the limited

Well your going to have a hard time fitting the Tundra rock warrior wheels on considering they are 5x150 bolt pattern with 14mm studs. 4runners are 6x139.7 with 12mm studs.

I thought they had the same style for the 4runners? I know it was an option for '12.
Also... afterlooking at harper7's exterior conversion thread... I was thinking about doing something similar, but what happens if a limited comes with the auto running boards? Will they still be able to replace the trim? And will they also be able to put the TE hood on a limited?
Sorry about all the questions guys... I'm laid up from a bad motorcycle accident and can't help but dream about my new runner!

just get the TE and add heated leather seats.
seriously, you want the off-road goodies AND the pop-out running boards.....you probably don't need the off-road goodies.
