"SUVs have changed. For the first time ever, we didn't have a single body-on-frame example in our annual SUV of the Year competition."
Well, how can you call it a competition when you take a small field of players? I guess they must consider the 4R a 'ringer' and just exclude it. Awards like this are a joke. Let me round up a couple drunks and a drug dealer, then pick a 'man of the year', yeah, way to go. Now I'm not says the Benz is not sweet, but what is fair is fair.

What you have to remember is that only updated or new models qualifies for the suv of the year. The 4runner could not be included. Some years there are not very many to choose from.

If that is the case they need to change the title/name of their award, IMO. I wonder what their threshold for change really is (how much of a change is needed, just sheet metal or is it mechanics, what about a new engine option)? Oh well, they sit as good as consumer reports does with me.

The Mercedes won because it doesn't get stuck on the golf course.

Mercedes did a really nice job with that GL, the interior is stunning to say the least.

I agree! :jaw drop: Looks like a Bentley or Aston. I wouldn't want to really use something that pretty though.

Are Mercedes and Chrysler still connected somehow ? Probably not, but I remember some years ago there were lots of junky Mercedes sedans on the road that were really re-branded Chryslers.

The current gen Grand Cherokee and Durango apparently use current gen Benz platforms. I don't recall any junky mercedes sedans though. The C, E and S class have always been pretty wonderful vehicles. There was a C-Class coupe/hatchback circa year 2000 that was quite cheesy though haha.

Mercedes is a great brand and car maker, I would buy one if I could afford it for sure...
The reason that the 4R was excluded from the competition was because the 13 model of isn't new, and you can see that the Pathfinder was there because it was a new design, not sure if it is still body on frame though...

A cousin of mine used to work at a MB dealership. Truly I cannot afford an oil change in those places.
Friend of mine just paid $800 to have his MB sedan's left fog light replaced. Had condensation in it.

My previous car was a 2010 GLK 350 4Matic. It was a great car for driving around city. Had all the toys (most I didn't use). Any yes, ladies liked it.
However it was super small, lost half of its value with in the first 2 years, cost a ton to maintain ($500-$700 services) and consumed premium fuel like crazy.
I get so much more utility from My new T4R it is ridiculous. Oh also I can drive around 4 adults without having to apologize for the size of the car.
