Rear cargo security system

UPDATE: on post #18 12FEB2013

I've been on photobucket trying to rotate and resize these for almost an hour and I'm done playing on the computer so here is a link to the photos...
Cargo pictures by helo_guy - Photobucket

Ok, so we've got a big wide open rear cargo area but sh!t rolls around and there's no way to organize stuff. ARB offers a solution starting around $1100 and the prices go up from there ARB Drawers | ARB 4x4 Accessories
Tuffy makes some hardcore stuff that our SWAT guys use and this stuff is made tough https://www.pro.tuffyproducts.com/p-...y-drawers.aspx but it starts around $1600 or so for custom made cargo since they only have premade kits for popular America LE vehicles.

Mine is filling the entire rear area starting from the back of the rear seats and going to the rear hatch, and will be 14" high of usable interior drawer space (I can't remember the exact specs). I wanted enough height to be usable space and still allow my German Shepherd to sit on it and not feel smashed between the head liner. I will have mine mounted to the truck by drilling 4 mounting points down through the floor with the bolt heads under the drawer incase anyone got the nuts off they wouldn't be able to pop the bolts out of the holes without removing the entire drawer.

The skeleton of the box is constructed from 16 guage square tubing of various sizes depending on the funtion of it in the construction. The skin of the box and the drawer is 16 guage cold roll steel. There is a three point flush mount T-handle locking mechanism and the drawer slides I will be using are Accuride or Kape and Vogt extra heavy duty slides. It will have a seal around where the drawer and box mate to keep dust and what not out (you guys that have also been in the sand box know how sand gets into any small crevice) mine will have towards the front of the drawer three equal length area's for .308 and 5.56mm magazines and the next row will be the width of the drawer and maybe 5 inch deep to accommodate an AR15 or SCAR17 sized rifle.

Cost will vary on how large you want yours and how stout you want it made.

If you have interest in having one made for you let me know.

I'd be interested. I'd like to add that it would be nice if it didn't squeak or rattle too much (I had a Tuffy box that rattled so much I thought I was driving a Dodge). Also, it would be cool if a bracket could be attached to the side that would allow the box to be attached to the sliding tray without drilling through it.

So another Officer has a side business building steel security doors or pretty much anything you want, he made the front bumper on his Silverado and has made other vehicle accessories for other Cops. So I asked him if he would like to tackle this project and he accepted. When I showed him the specs on ARB and Tuffy he just shook his head and said "I can't believe they charge this much for that product, I will make yours stronger, to your specs and whatever options you want for half or less", So I said "copy, lets do it"

He will make you any size you want in any configuration.

I will find out the gauge steel but I know it's thicker then the ARB and Tuffy, the drawer rollers are rated for 1000 lbs (I told him I wanted the truck to break first), it will be lockable and the lock will tie into 3 side of the box to make it strong, it will have a seal around the drawer to keep dust and what not out (you guys that have also been in the sand box know how sand gets into any small crevice) mine will have towards the front of the drawer three equal length area's for .308 and 5.56mm magazines and the next row will be the width of the drawer and maybe 5 inch deep to accommodate a M1A SOCOM 16 or M4.

Mine is still in production as this is a side gig and he's been working on it for maybe 1.5 months but he's stated that when he produces these the timeline will be shorter since he can use some specs from mine and he will also have already built mine and will know what to do and how to source things like rollers, lock etc...

Cost will vary on how large you want yours and how stout you want it made, mine set me back $800 and I think that is a hell of a price.

If you have interest in having James make one for you let me know and I will send you his contact info.

Keep me posted on this.....I love the idea of dust proof too NV is just like AZ and dust get;s everywhere, especially at the range or out in the sticks.

You mean like a piece of "L" shaped angle iron that would be attached (welded, maybe) to the box and then the other side is held to the sliding tray by a bolt and nut?

I'm pretty sure anything you can think of he will incorporate it into your design.

I think if you could put a lip on the bracket that slid under the sliding tray, it would eliminate the need to bolt down the box. That was my thought. Either way, I am interested.

Smile

I've got to remember to look at your pics when I get home tonight. I've been calling around to a couple of my LEO buddies here in VA to get something like this worked out.

Definately Interested!

LOL, I tried pasting the coordinates into google, but I let the "location" text in there too and it didn't work. I told you my decoder was weak.....

I suggest adding a simplex lock like this one. Kaba Access Control - Mechanical Pushbutton Locks - Simplex 900

I have a lock, handles, and heavy-duty drawer slides in the garage, I just have not got around to fabbing a box yet. I was going to use sign board the same way that truckvault does. However, steel is even better.
