2010 4Runner Trail Edition or 2013 FJ Trail Teams

Hey guys,

I was wondering your opinion on something. I was wondering whether I should get a 2010 4Runner Trail Edition or a 2013 TT FJ. I am stuck and do not know which one to get. Some more information is that I am single college male and have many years of schooling left. On top of that I will be adding leather to both and getting Navigation to both if I get one.

Thanks,
MEB

I found the FJ fun to drive, but a bit impractical even for a single male. The blind spots were, for me, horrific and the door problems get old.

If you wheel a lot, I'd at least consider the FJ; else it is an easy choice (for me) and that would be the 4Runner.

Others here probably have more useful info.

What do you plan on doing? I am single and there is no choice for me, the 4R is it. I ski, shoot, bike, camp, hunt, surf and I couldn't imagine going through that door system they have on the FJ.

If it's your Daily Driver -the 4Runner.
If you need a back seat - the 4Runner.
If you want a weekend offroad warrior - the FJC.

If the FJC had 4 doors and the rear window rolled down, I'd have one.

I test drove the FJ before I got my 4runner. Its a great little yota, but I agree, the blind spots were kind of scary and I could never get used to how those doors work. The thing I always liked about the 4runners was the sliding rear window, I saw a FJ at the toyota jamboree with a pneumatic setup that pushed the glass up, but it didn't look clean.

Go test drive both and see which one you like better.

I have a 2012 4runner and the wife has a 08 FJ, I traded my 08 Tacoma TRD off-road in for the 4runner so I've tried them all but the Tundra. As the others have stated you need to address what your going to be using it for, more then usual off-roading the FJ was designed for that and is a bit more fun off the beaten path. It has some of the worst blind spots I've ever seen though but is also a bit quicker off the line then the 4runner due to weighing less. They both have the e-locker which is one thing I miss the most from the Tacoma. After driving the 4runner for almost 5,000 miles I don't regret it one bit, it is way more comfortable then the FJ, has better seating position and features and much better SA (situational awareness) since I don't have to triple check and stick my head out the window to make lane changes, the 4runner hasn't gotten me stuck off road yet and has way more room inside. My vote is for the 4runner and not due to owning one but due to having experience with both.

I had the same problem deciding between the FJ Trail Teams and the T4RTE. I found the FJ just involved too many compromises with the back seat.

Have you considered a Tacoma? Perhaps a doublecab?

i also looked at an FJ before getting the 4Runner.

i went with the 4runner for practicality's sake.

I like the FJ a lot but it has too many quirky things to deal with for me personally. Doors, blind spots, rock chips ect. But man I wish I could have a manual!!!

I bought a 2012 FJ and traded it for a T4R after 3 months.

I wanted to like it more than I actually did.

Look at it this way: you are a single male now, but you're probably only the bond strength of a few thin latex molecules away from an instant family. Get the 4Runner now and the necessitated trade-in will be one less thing to worry about when physics and biology catches up with you.

Don't ask me how I know.

the only problem is that if i do not find a used TE, the new ones do not come with the JBL system and that is a must because I do not like after market radios.

Is it an issue of sound quality or features? Neither the JBL nor the non-JBL systems are anything to rave about stock (although the JBL is a little bit better), but any of the systems can be made to sound quite good with speakers and an amp. That lets you retain the stock head.

This. Exactly this. Go drive em both, preferably back to back and multiple times, and you'll start to get a sense of which you prefer.

I don't have a clue in the world about FJs ... but I simply cannot imagine making a major vehicle decision based in the slightest upon a radio.
