Red face Error 5 with iphone 5. Any iphone owner/user help please

seems that i can only play music thru bluetooth and not thru "ipod".
when i first purchased phone 2 weeks ago seemed ok.
background ---- i guess in an effort to "conserve" battery life of the phone i shut off the "cellular" button, and also the bluetooth, and dim the screen as much as possible,etc....but would turn 3g (cellular) and BT (bluetooth) back on in the am when i get up for work. seems like i have to "set up" the phone before i connect it to the usb in the glove box....
could i have screwed something up?
theres a small box at the bottom of the iphone screen when playing pandora or my podcast that lets me toggle between "dock" and "car media" this seems to help for choosing BT. but no can do for ipod.

hopefully theres someone on here thats a iphone person that knows any tricks....
i was able to toggle between bt (which seemed to play the podcasts, music in storage) and ipod (which played pandora) seems backward----and get phone calls.....help

See this TSB - I know this goes to 11' and you are 12', but as you can see they have issues.

Mine does the same thing. I get about 2 or 3 songs into it via the USB and get the Error 5 message. Fine over BT, but nice on longer trips to be able to keep it plugged it and use it.

i only use my iPhone for BT streaming; have an iPod Classic in the glovebox via USB.

this is likely the operative part of the TSB westwind posted:
This bulletin does not apply to the following models: iPodTM mini, iPodTM shuffle, iPodTM photo, iPhoneTM and 4th generation and earlier models. These versions of the iPodTM are NOT compatible with this system.

* iPhoneTM has limited compatibility with this system. Some functions may not operate properly

Anthony,

I had the same problem a couple of days ago. Hold down the lock button and turn the phone off, and then restart it. Once I did that the ipod selection started working again.

Thx. I'll try that. Hope it works. But I guess I shouldn't complain too much since the music does play. And I can use the steering controls to make phone calls. It's just annoying about switching back and forth between stored music (mp3's and podcasts) and streaming pandora......seems like I can use the phone itself and not the aux button to toggle...

Unhappy Well don't know how I did it.....

But I managed to disconnect and seperate the phone from music.
I can't make calls thru the steering buttons without "disconnecting" the Bluetooth.......and then have to disconnect "audio player" to connect phone....
Big WTF!
Guess I have to rtfm!!!!!!
Don't know what I did......
Anyone here with an iPhone 5 please help me. Or lead me in the right direction.
Dealer visit? Hope not. But I'm due for my 10k service....

HELP!

I think I figured it out

The truck "considers" the iPhone 5 a Bluetooth device since its a phone. So the whole "iPod" selection from "aux" does not apply.
I was having trouble voice dialing my stored numbers......and finally figured out to press the "off hook" button (to pick up the phone) ,then the "talk button" say ex. "dial house", and then the "off hook" button again and the call goes through.

At least that's how I finally found my sanity with this iPhone 5 hating 4runner phone.....seems I have to use the iPhone itself if I want to toggle from pandora and back to my podcasts. " my music " is a whole different animal if attached to the USB in the glove box.....basically, this phone does not want to or like being hooked up to the USB -except for charging purposes...

I just bought a 2013 SR5 with the third row and Entune package. I can't get any of the Internet apps to work with my iPhone 5. I've tried with the USB cable and nada! Apple and Toyota need to have a little pow wow and figure this out.

Getting used to it tho

Im starting to like the Bluetooth thing.
It's like the truck is waiting for me....I'm listening to a tune on pandora over my fantastic (3G sprint network which is supposed to be 4G/LTE whenever sprint gets around to my neck of the woods to provide it-digress-) cell-Internet service.
As I start the truck it picks up the song over Bluetooth when I turn on the radio.

I keep the phone in my pocket and then change my mind and put my podcasts on from my cell. Then go to my music if I want and play music from there.
There is NO aux available. Unless I plug something else(ipod shuffle,nano,touch,etc---but never the iphone) into the USB in the glove box. It charges the phone but nothing goes on with the phone and USB/radio.

Bluetooth and iphone5 that's your medicine. Take it and love it !! Cause that's all you'll get.....
Thx Toyota ! Thx apple !
Everything is so easy and uncomplicated with you guys......oh what a feeling .....ERROR 5 !

Gonna get a custom license plate : ERROR 5, LV ERR 5, err54evr......

Friend: hey Anthony, what kind of truck is that?
Me: it's an error 5, i mean sr-5 .........
