GX power folding mirrors

Hi All-

I'm thinking about doing some modification to my 2011 4runner by adding power folding mirrors. I have seen posts about adding highlander mirrors to tundras, but I am thinking that since the GX is essentially the same vehicle, that the mirrors (and switch) would possibly work on the same year 4Runner.

I'd be interested in whether anyone has any insight into whether this would work. Looking at pictures, the trucks just look so similar.

Thanks

This is something I looked into when i had my 3rd gen (overseas they are equipped with power folding mirrors). No doubt it can work if you get the right mechanical parts, it WILL cost big time. Realize it's not only the power motor and other mirror internals, but also it has to be wired into a switch (OEM, non-US spec) that US spec models don't have. Sounds like a project to me!

Anyway, the switch would look similar to this:

My solution is much more affordable - roll down the window and tug on your mirror.

I've looked at the mirrors on my parents' Highlander and had the same thought as you - they look like they'll fit, but I'm betting this would be a pretty expensive foray. I'd be willing to bet that the mirrors alone are probably at least $400-$500 each. You could likely splice the 4R harness to get your signals and heaters working, then find the mirror's "fold circuit" and wire it to a switch though.

I think it would be a pretty easy mod to physically accomplish, but probably will cost more $$ than it's worth.

Mine is to just drive too ****ing close to the cement pillars in my parking garage.

Buy a couple mirrors and send 'em to Hackman - he'll knock that little project out in a weekend.

Looks like about 450 each for the mirrors, 150 for the gx switch, and fifty each for the covers. Little steep for the option. Might be a summer project though...

Thanks for the feedback.

I would say it depends which GX your referencing? I doubt the GX 470 mirrors would fit (being closer in relation to the 4th Gen, but even then the body is actually differently curved in areas) The GX 460 could work, but then again you have the issue of expensive mirrors, wiring them into the vehicle and most importantly, not even sure if they will bolt up properly and then if that connection will seal properly and/or match the door closely enough without extensive modification.
