Me vs the dealer (oil change intervals)
I have a 2011 4runner limited, the maintenance manual says every 16000km intervals for oil changes . why does the dealer insist it needs to be done evey 8000km.!

If they're willing to cover it under ToyotaCare in Canada, then by all means, let them do it.
If they're saying it now that you're out of the maintenance coverage period, then they're just trying to get more of your money.
It's pretty simple, really.

Sorry, I can't help but think less of you when you won't take the time to spell things right or use proper grammar. Deal with it. I don't care if you're ESL either, because I am too.

no, we are well within our warranty still.
my oil changes cost me $80 for a basic service . seems like a cash grab to me.

Seems the question s/b directed to the dealer. "Mr Dealer the TOYOTA service manual says "X", and you say "Y". Please explain this to me."
I can't imagine a dealer "insisting" to me how I spend my money/service my vehicle.
My sister gets her Corolla's oil changed every 3,000 mi. "because the [dealer's] sticker in the window says so".
Agree: money grab.

I know the oil light is programmed to come on every 5k miles but supposedly that is to remind you to rotate the tires. Manufacturer recommended change is 10k miles with synthetic.

Yup Oil change every 10,000 at 5,000 they probably want to rotate the tires, replace the cabin air filter and the engine air filter, personally I do these myself every year. You might need it more often if you live/drive in dusty conditions.

my manual indicates oil change at 8k km, 24k, 40k, etc. AND a service which INCLUDES an oil change at 16k km, 32k, 48k, etc. So oil is indeed every 8k.

Do you live in Halifax and do you have a roof rack on your 4Runner? If so, I think I saw you coming out of Bayer's Lake on Saturday!

I believe that it was originally 5k intervals on the 2010 models and in 2011 changed to 10k.

Oil Change Interval
Seems there have been multiple versions of both 5k and 10k intervals.

I had to insist dealer change oil after first 5,000 miles. I towed with it for 2500 of them and wanted it changed. Now they'll charge me the 80 bucks for the 10K service I'm sure.....

The Canadian maintenance manuals also differ in what oil they recommend, and for how long. The U.S. manual states 10,000 miles/16,000 km for 0W20 synthetic motor oil, and 5000 miles/8000 km for 5W20 motor oil, type not specified.
I think the Canadian models also have more leeway in terms of permitted temperature ranges for the different oil types.
Sooo... if your dealer is using (much cheaper) 5W20, 8000 km may not be wrong per se. Them charging you $80 for that is, since they cost $55 here with synthetic oil, and last I looked, the Loonie was worth more than the U.S. Dollar.
