Noise behind the rear wheel driver's side.

Hello fellow 4runner owners. I think this has been addressed but I am not sure.

Yesterday while I was putting the kids in the truck I heard a noise from behind the rear wheel on the driver's side.

I think it's the gas pump, my question is it normal ? It's the second time I hear it real well.

The truck was started, I let it like that for about 2 minutes before I drive off. So if anyone else is having this issue let me know if I need to relax or freak out and go to the dealer to check it out.

Thanks

Hi calcrc,

I noticed that in your post, you don't give a lot of info about the noise coming from behind the rear wheel on D/S; just that you thought that it may be the fuel pump.

Perhaps if you could describe the sound giving a little more detail, I'm sure there are other forum members here that would be more than happy to help.

rigtec, Cheers

Its most likely the fuel system. Search is your friend. Its also in your owners manual.

Yes , I think it's the fuel system also. My question was is it normal, it seemed like it was lasting a long time, like I said I have noticed it for the second time because the sound bothered me. It is like a buzzing sound and it didn't seem to stop. I wil look at my manual tonight afrer work.

It is the fuel system. It is normal. They all do it. It is in your owner's manual, like @kmiller8821 said.

Hello, currently at work and I went outside to get something in the truck. I hear th same noise, but the car is not running, again sorry if I seem annoying but this has me concerned. Why would it do that if the car isnt even started? I will go check it again on my last break and see if it stopped, and if it doesnt stop I think there must be something wrong here.

If its not the gas pump might it be the kdss electronics ?Noise is coming from somewhere under the spare tire.

@1engineer and @harper7 posted a bunch of link here that might be useful for you read about this noise: KDSS Actuator On while parked

I'm going to go with what everyone else said and say it's probably normal. I've actually never really noticed this noise before, but of course I also don't stand around observing parked vehicles either

I came out to the garage once and it almost sounded like the rear driver side tire leaking air (2010 SR5). Read the manual and it's the fuel/ evap system doing a pressure check (or something - don't quote me on this!).

It's normal and happens some number of hours after driving. I'm not sure if it also runs when the car is on occasionally.

Hissing noise from back left tire (driver's side)

I'm getting this noise brand new 2018 Limited 4Runner. I have my phone right up against the drivers side back tire. Hissing sound... Guessing fuel system? Does it all the time while running.

Agreed. I think it runs 5 hours after shutting down. Our Subaru does the same thing.

Hissing/Bubbling sound behind Driver Rear tire

Anybody have any updates or feedback on this? I have a 2019 ORP that just started making this hissing/bubbling sound coming from behind rear driver side tire. Only 14k miles and not driven rough yet. Gas cap is on and theres no lights triggered on the dash and truck is driving fine. It seems like its originating from just under OEM gas skid. The sound only occurs when the truck is running and disappears when its off. No visible leaks. It is not a buzzing sound like some have mentioned and not sure if its fuel Evap pressure check because it only occurs when the truck is running(I have read this happens when truck is off). My VIN was not on Fuel Pump recall from Toyota, could they be wrong?

Also note that today is hotter than normal at 105F, not sure if that would have anything to do with gas expanding due to heat and there is no smell of gasoline.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

*Update - I drove around a bit and filled tank completely and hissing/bubbling sound has gone away. Previously when this sound started up the tank was a little less than half full. However I'm sure I would of noticed this sound before if it previously existed so I'm pretty sure its new.
