Goal Zero Generators

Has anyone heard of this brand? Used it? Like it? Dislike it?

Going on a camping trip in the summer and would like some options for power in the tent. This seems to be great for CA type camping. It stores energy from solar.

Here's an examples:

Goal Zero Extreme 350 Kit Power Pack | Vanns.com

Thoughts?

Nice! Thanks, I will read through it.

I'm just looking for something basic and not to power anything more than to recharge a camera battery or a cell phone.

You can get smaller kits for cell phones or camera batteries. The 350 charges my ARB fridge, its pretty small but weighs a ton. Goal Zero makes an awesome product. I have two solar panels mounted to the top of my rack, charges the battery all day (while the sun is out).

The one thing I have learned is, if you do get the 350 and get the inverter. I haven't tried it for smaller appliances, but with my fridge, it draws way too much power from the inverter. I get more juice out of the battery if you use the female car adapter going straight into the battery. So you might want to look into the different cables and accessories too.

Forgot to post that I'm considering something like this too but at the end of the day may just go with a Yamaha 1k gas genny for about 1/4 the price with increased capabilities.

Thanks Greg! I pinky promise that I searched first lol
Granted, not for long, but I made an attempt - does that count for anything?

They are coming to a Costco near me in June - SWEET

I saw the smaller kits, but the difference of price is a couple hundred so I figured why not just go a little bigger.

How long does it take to get a full charge if you leave out in the sun?
Have you noticed a decreased of power or increase of total charge time, as yours ages?

O yea I forgot to add, the packs are super quiet. You'll hear a small fan kick on every once in awhile, but besides that, silence. Something to think about, I know some of those gas generators can get pretty loud.

Forgive me if I am asking a blunt question, but is this basically just a 12 volt battery packaged into a nice compact housing with attachable accessories? I am not trying to knock on the product in any way, I am truly curious

Also for those of you who have it, are the batteries inside them replaceable? Thanks!

I get a discount on their gear and subsequently have quite a bit of it. Some of the pieces I have currently or have had in the past:

Guide 10 Kit

Extreme 350 Power pack / inverter

Sherpa 50 Kit

Nomad 27 Panel

Boulder 30 panel

Escape 150 Power pack / inverter

Guardian Charge Controller

Rock out speaker

And we have a whole bunch of Light a Lifes we use for camping.

I use all of this gear for camping / hunting trips as well as Search and Rescue Operations with SDSO.

We will have the Extreme 350 and a bunch of the gear up in the mountains this weekend on a camping trip, I'll take pics of the setup!

If anyone wants any specific information on the pieces listed above, feel free to ask and I will give you my honest opinion.

First Question - can that discount be passed on?!

Wonder how many spare batteries you could buy for the price of one charger?

I get the discount through Promotive.com - Pro deals on hundreds of brands with discounts up to 70% off retail

I'm on their fire/rescue team but they have hundreds of different "teams" you may qualify for, hundreds of heavy discounts with many companies!

The guide 10 kit retails for $119 and comes with a charger for AA's and AAA's and is plenty to charge the batteries.

You could buy a few spare batteries for that money but you would have to haul around a couple hundred alkaline batteries to equal the rechargeables. If you went with lithium batts. good luck with that, those are not cheap.
