Steel wheels
I have done some searching on here and notice that no one I can find seems to be running steel wheels. Is there a reason for this like they are too heavy and cause too many problems down the road (brakes, rotors, etc)? I was looking to go with something like the ProComp Series 52 Black wheels in a 17x9 or the US Wheel 44 Stealth Crawler. Both are the correct bolt pattern and BS I want, but I am just wondering if there is a reason other then personal preference no one runs these?

I'm running black FJ steelies in the winter with snow tires. But it was a utilitarian/price decision - they're not very pretty.

You'll have to run spacers to run those pro comp steel wheels. Spokes will hit your calipers.

Okay, so there are a few of you out there at least runnign FJ steelies. I am trying to save money from going the Konig route but am a bit worried the stock wheels are 29 lbs and the ProComp and US Wheels are 40 lbs a piece. Any idea what the FJ ones weigh?

I run FJ Steelies. Not sure what they weigh, but I like using them because they are a Toyota part and there are no clearance issues. I waited a long time to find some pop up on Craigslist. They were practically new and a very good deal, so patience can pay off. I like the utilitarian look and I like not having to worry about taking care of them too much.

We have 16"x8" PowderCoated Gloss Black Steel Wheels in both 4.5" and 4" Backspacer. They have a particular center that we know does clear the calipers, which of course is a common problem on Toyotas.

You have a 16" rim that clears the rotor and calipers on a 5th gen (2010-2013) 4Runner?

Interesting. I was hoping to avoid using spacers. I would have thought these would have cleared in this or the 17x9 size.

So I guess then I may end up going with the Konigs. Just to be clear, the Konig Countersteers clear fine and would come out flush to the fender without spacers, right?

I remember awhile ago when I wanted those same wheels, I forgot who it was, but he had the matte black wrapped 4runner, he was saying that the way that the spokes curve, it wouldn't clear the calipers.
The konigs will clear fine, I don't know about flushness, theres plenty of other people that run them without spacers.

OP,
I was running US Wheels Stealth Crawlers in 17x8. They looked very good, but you have to run wheel spacers to clear the calipers and they are very heavy. I only had them on for about 300 miles. I did not like running the wheel spacers and there was a definite lack of power with so much unsprung weight.
I chose to go with Ultra Gauntlets. Some people love them, some people hate them. I like the fact they fit without issues and they are about 15lbs lighter a piece.
Before (US Wheels Stealth Crawlers)
After (Ultra Gauntlets)

The link is not there. Can you re post it? I am curious have you aired down the 285s real low on that wheel like 12 lbs?
Thanks everyoine for your input. My thinking is now that I may go with Konigs and possibly and FJ steel wheel for a spare. Or I guess I could use my stock spare and put a random 285 70 17 tire on it (rather then buy a 5th Duratracs).
