120 V outlet in console

So every time I start to get ready I end up trying to get the console mounted 120V outlet to work so I can charge 3 mobile devices.

The bottom light (120V?? 100W? --> this switch is not very clear in what it is doing if you ask me) never lights up and when I plug a phone charger in the outlet, it does not trigger my phone to go into charging mode.

What am I missing? granted the phone charger is not a 3 prong plug which may be part of the problem, but if it is, how to you get around that (most surge strips have 3 prong plugs as well).

I have not pulled the manual on it just yet and I plan on checking the fuses this evening. Anyone any suggestions.

I think I read in the manual that once you activate it, in park (and while the engine is running) it will operate at 400w; when you start driving it will automatically switch to 100w. I don't think you should have a problem with a two prong--I've used my OEM samsung wall charger there with no problems. I just recall having to activate the switch every time I turn the vehicle back on though, I guess it defaults to off?

Start the truck, push the button and the plug will work. The 400w light is while parked. As soon as you put it in drive the 400w light will go out and the 100w light turns on. Not sure Toyotas thinking on why they only allow 100w while driving. Still enough to power the cooler though.

The picture in the first post was taken while driving and I had been driving for about 7 minutes.
  1. Start the truck
  2. Push the button
  3. Plug in the Samsung phone charger
  4. Drive until the first stoplight (about 7 minutes)
  5. Plug in the phone
  6. Nothing.....

are you okki.. tell me are you okki.... I'm not okki. <--- needs a Michael Jackson smiley!

I will try to remember to test it out again later when I drive, but I distinctly remember the light switching to the 100W automatically once I start driving (and it does not go back to the 400W unless I turn it off completely and on again). I turn it on exactly the way you described too...I wonder if something is up with yours since it does not seem to be switching to the 100W setting even after driving?

Thanks Eddie.. I'm wondering if the inverter isn't switching as it should... I'll leave the truck running after my drive home and try the rear outlet when I get home.

I ran out to go test it right now since well, I'm just impatient like that

When I turn mine on after the engine is running, both 400W (green) and 100W (orange) lights are on. The power to the phone charger will turn on in ~5-10 seconds after I press the button (I tested this a few times on the front and the rear outlet). When I switch the gear lever out of park, the 400W indicator goes out and the 100W indicator stays on (the phone charger does not seem to loose power during the switch).

Maybe something is wrong with yours since only the green indicator comes on?

thanks Eddie, I think you're right. I'm thinking there is something wrong. I'm going to go check the rear.but if that doesn't work either then I'm going to guess it's either a fuse or the inverter. Hopefully it's just a fuse. But I would think if that's the case, then none of it would be working.

Edit: I checked the rear outlet when I came home.I got a satisfying "charging beep" with the engine running. Only the 400W light is ever on. When the truck is in accessory mode, I get nothing (phone ceases to charge).

Will check and see if the console outlet is plugged in properly over the weekend.

Still curious why I get no 100W light ever.

I tried again on my way home, it seems like mine turns off as well once I put it into "accessory" mode, so I guess that part is probably normal. I also noticed that it does not seem to make a difference if the engine is actually running or not, so long as it's in the "on" position. Good to see that at least your rear outlet works, hopefully your issue is minor just a loose connection or something, good luck!

It's been a long day at work, but if I remember correctly I used to experience the same problem. Plugged in the iphone charger, hit the button and nothing. I would proceed to hit the button again, which would change modes, and I promptly received the beep for charging. Have you tried this method yet? (Sorry if you have, like I said long day today)

Thank @eddiebx . Yeah... i'm wondering if I didn't properly push int he connector when I had the console apart for the CB installation. Will check that tomorrow.

@Black T , yeah.. I tried a whole variety of on-off, plug in, etc...

My main concern was the inverter being dead, but with the rear working, I'm thinking eddiebx may have the right idea with the loose connection.

thanks for the assistance and verification guys!
