2012 Trail edition
So I have been kicking around the idea on trading my 99 SR5 for a newer T4R. I test drove a 2011 SR5 the other day and it was ok, now I have my eye on a 2012 Trail edition.
Has 29k mile and they are asking 29k for it, looks pretty clean but I'm tossing the idea of getting back into a payment.
My current T4R has 170k on it, still running strong and is paid for so......what would you do?

I want a 5th gen TE but I can milk my '99 for a while longer since there's nothing wrong with it,runs strong at 179k miles and the biggie is why saddle myself with a car payment plus the 3rd gens still look good for as old as they are now.
My mom paid $29k for her '99 and it had just less than 30k on the odo back in 2000 so the more things change the more they stay the same.

saw a guy here at the outer bansk.. i pulled up next to him n he commented how awesome my truck was.. then we talked for a hot second and he said he had 260k and its still kicking and he nailed it sliding away in the sand haha.. but 29k for a trail is a great price if it has navi and kdss

PS, the description says that it has heated seats.. no trail edition has heated seats from the factory.. i doubt it has them unless someone added it aftermarket which i doubt. and it doesn't mention or show the controls for the KDSS so i don't think it has it.

I don't think there are any controls of any kind for the KDSS though

Jtwo,
If you really dread having a payment, and your current truck is still serving you well, keep it and start saving for your next vehicle. After all, you're going to need/want one sooner or later anyway.
Treat it like you have a payment, saving that amount every month. You'll be banking away the interest so you'll save the money up faster than it would take to pay off a loan. Keep it in a separate account so it's harder to access it for something else.

170k is eventually going to come around to to a major repair.
That truck looks clean, I'd have them run a Carfax on it, offer them $27.5, and trade yours in...maybe get 8-10 for it?
Seems like a fair price for the mileage on the TE..my guess is it won't be around long.
Good Luck

I'm really shocked as too how high used TE's are going for. Kind of makes me happy if I ever want to trade mine.

I agree with TitanPat - that truck sure looks clean, at that mileage it's just getting broken in. I have the identical truck as a 2013 and absolutely love it.

That description also says it has separate heat and a/c controls for driver and passenger. So I think whoever wrote it did not really know what they were doing.
My TE has KDSS and nav, there are no controls for the KDSS itself but there are two knobs and some switches above the mirror for other 4x4 functions.
In my opinion the KDSS and rear locker are the best things about the TE and would definitely make sure it had KDSS if I were to buy another one.
The navigation system is OK at best and I have had better ones that just plug in when needed, so that is no big loss. But the KDSS with those big sway bars really hold the road on twisty mountain roads.

Looking at the photos it's obvious that it doesn't have NAV; back up camera is in the rear view mirror and look at the center stack. TE's don't have the auto climate control or heated seats.
However, whether it has KDSS or not would not be a deal breaker for me. Given the mileage and condition it looks like a good deal. It just comes down to whether you want to take the chance of a major repair on your current vehicle or take on a monthly payment.
