Trail edition spoted tread
5th gen Trail Rigs are rare in most parts of the country. For example, according to Edmunds.com's inventory in KC area of Midwest out 54 total 2013 4Runners there are only 3 Trail models for sale right now. Not rare as unicorn but not so often seen.

When I bought mine in April of 2012 I was keeping a count for the first year or so of other Trail Editions seen in traffic around the central valley and bay area of northern California.
At this point I have kind of lost count, but is still less than a dozen, maybe have seen 8 or 9 other Trails. I drive a lot for work and I know they must be out there, but I just don't see all that many on the highways.
(They all must be out in the brush somewhere.)

This may be a worthwhile thread. I see SR5s and LEs on a daily basis, but very rarely do I come across another TE. Here in the Gulf States region they are very rare. I've seen two here in the DFW area in the 18 months I've had mine and know of two others. Liking the exclusivity. I've even had people ask me "what is that?" on several occasions and they are surprised to find out it is a 4Runner.

I see a lot of them here in Colorado.
I actually never realized the 5th gen 4runner existed until January of 2012, when I saw a TE and decided I needed to have one. Unfortunately for me, the southeast didn't get many TEs, and even less because of the Tsunami, so I had to go a little over a thousand miles to get mine.
When I lived in Georgia, I think I only saw 4 TEs in 2.5 years. I see about 4 a month here in Colorado.

5th Gen 4Runners are scarce enough in Eastern Canada but I can't recall seeing another Trail since I bought mine.

In the SF Bay Area I see SR5s and LEs daily as well and they all seem to be white or black. I have only seen maybe 4 other TEs since I have had mine and they were either Mag Gray and Silver. I have never seen another Shoreline Blue on the road besides mine. Salsa Red? Never.....

Columbia is a cool town! I've stopped through twice now on my way to Colorado/Moab.

Surprisingly, I've seen at least 1 a week in and around Downtown Houston. There's a Shoreline blue one in my apartment complex (lifted), and two Salsa Red ones running around the Heights. Occasionally, I see a couple Black ones around the Memorial City area. Granted, of all the 4runners I see, the overwhelming majority of them are SR5s or Limiteds.
I even talked to one for the guys with a Salsa Red one. Asked if if it was difficult to find his. He told me he just got lucky. He bought it in 2010, "before anyone knew what it was." Lucky guy.
