Question on front Antenna

I recently purchased a 2010 4Runner SR5. When I purchased it, I didn't realize that the front antenna was missing (assumed they took it off to detail, my bad assumption...). However I was also under the impression that most 4Runner antennas were easily replaced by simply screwing in a replacement.

Was I wrong in this assumption?

I'm thinking that this is a screw in antenna base which had the antenna broken off, but i don't want to get into creative removal if I'll be doing more damage than good.

any suggestions from anyone that has dealt with something similar?

Nothing's broken - you just need an antenna:

Antenna

Short replacements look good, but my long stock antenna kept me from hitting a low roof. I'm sticking with my "early warning system".

Replacement shorty

I prefer the Pilot ANT-029B for the Toyotas. I got both of mine from PepBoys for $12.99ish. Love it!

Tighten it with a wrench, if you hand tighten it the waggling back and forth will loosen it up and it will eventually fall off.

Most auto parts stores sell plastic wrenches that won't damage the antenna base, or if you don't care (like me) us a crescent wrench.

Or you can just use the one that's suppose to come with your 4runner
