Entune Monthly Charges
I know there was speculation in the past on charges for Entune services after the first three (free) years.
Was at the dealership this past Monday helping my cousin buy a Camry
(Toyota of Escondido - third purchase so far and haven't been let down yet)
Anyway, we checked out the Entune system in the Camry and asked the Fleet manager about the services. He said that Toyota is still debating, though it looks like they will be charging 2 separate service fees:
- $5 for internet services such as Pandora, weather etc.
- Separate charge, another $5 for the live traffice update
My jaw dropped when he mentioned those prices :jaw drop: and we opted out of the Entune package. Sadly, that eliminates the smart key (push start) and sunroof. Though it was not worth the 2200 and the monthly fees.
$10 a month for something you can get on your phone!
Not sure how true that information is but figured I would share with folks who are considering a new purchase.

My sources say nothing has been decided, including price, for the foreseeable future.

Danny, out of curiosity why opt out of the Entune package and lose other features that you actually want? The radio and navigation will still work w/o entune subscription I think, just no access to a bunch of useless apps
I have zero intentions of paying for the subscription if they do finally decide to charge per month because I literally use it about 1% of the time.
According to Entune's website right now nothing has been finalized, and some parts actually seem to suggest that it might be free forever? If you scroll down a bit and check out the FAQ section, it seems to suggest that, but not really sure if that applies to all or just MY13 and up: Toyota Entune® | Toyota In-Car Technology - GPS, Hands-Free Phone, Apps and Data
And when you go to this page and scroll down to the FAQ, it seems to suggest that it might be ~$5/mth like you were told, but the fine print also says it's an estimate and not finalized, like G was saying: Toyota Entune Support
So who really knows

To add to 1engineer's statement, my guess is that should you choose to not pay for Entune, the only consequence is that you won't get those specific features...
MyFordTouch is like that, if you don't pay for certain aspects you just don't get those aspects... Seems like a bad reason to forgo smart key or sunroof if you wanted them?

Not paying and not having access to those services may be enough to tip the scales so the whole package is not worth the upgrade cost... that is, smart key + sunroof + Entune (without the pay services) may not be worth $2200.

I will likely buy a 4R on Monday. During a visit to the dealer yesterday the salesman said Entune is free for 4 years. Whether this is accurate or not is not an issue for me as I see no real use for the connectivity stuff anyway. As someone above pointed out, this is all on our phones already.

Everybody has to determine what value they place on certain options, I'm just saying if I really wanted smart key and I wanted a sunroof, I would not let Entune prevent me from having those things.
You know it's free for at least 4 years, it may continue to be free and even if it isn't, it's not going to cripple your radio. My guess is they will realize they can't charge for it in it's current form unless more features are added, as it's been pointed out it's basically just a visual form of your smart phone and your smart phones data is powering it.

Eddie, the decision wasn't all mine. It was my cousins decision ultimately, he felt sufficient using his phone and the stereo links the BT audio over the speakers, so music, phone and navigation all come through the speaker. He thought that enough to save an extra $50 a month.

Agreed. I didn't mean to say that it is not worth the cost... only to say that a buyer will have to determine if it is worth the cost.

I fail at reading, I thought you were buying a new Camry not your cousin, lol. But yeah I know what you mean, the only reason I got the entune nav is because I can't get KDSS w/o out. I mean it gets the job done, but totally nothing to write home about. To be honest, I use my phone navigation 75% of the time even though I have the built in nav

The built in NAV is very accurate though, compared to the Garmin I had in my FJ. At least so far!

If I had to get Entune in order to get KDDS or XREAS I would totally get it as well.

Sadly, that eliminates the smart key (push start) and sunroof.
Would you clarify this please? What does Entune have to do with using a smart key and the sunroof? Are you just referring to the purchase of this with the Camry and not affecting the 4R? Thanks!

For the Camry, SE - it's all or none.
For the 4R, I am not sure, since I purchased fully loaded JBL.
But as stated by Eddie, apparently KDDS maybe only available with entune.
Toyota sets up codes for these packages, so you just have to figure out what the code is for what you want and what it encompasses. For the most part you can not break up the package, unless that option is available with another package.
For example Entune maybe available without KDDS, but not the other way around. Just depends on the car and available options.
